FreedomWorks PAC Sets the Record Straight in South Carolina Senate Race

COLUMBIA, SC. In the race for South Carolina’s open U.S. Senate seat, Inez Tenenbaum’s distortions of Jim DeMint’s record on taxes are nothing short of absurd.

That’s why FreedomWorks PAC—which was created on July 22, 2004, as part of the merger between Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE) and Empower America– is entering the debate in South Carolina to set the record straight.

FreedomWorks PAC President Matt Kibbe commented:

“Jim DeMint is a taxpayer hero. He is the rare elected official who has never voted for a tax increase. Indeed, in Congress, Rep. DeMint is a leader in the effort to cut taxes and reform our overly complicated, unfair tax system. He is the author of H.R. 3215, the “Tax Reform Action Commission (TRAC) Act,” which provides a blueprint for moving forward on fundamental tax reform. This important reform legislation has been cosponsored by 118 other Members of Congress.”

“Rep. DeMint has also cosponsored a total of six different tax reform proposals, including versions of the national sales tax and the flat tax. Our current system is a disaster, and by pushing forward on all fronts, Rep. DeMint shows he believes in taking action to find a solution. That is something America’s taxpayers can cheer about.”

“Inez Tenenbaum, on the other hand, offers no real ideas of her own and simply resorts to misleading attacks on Jim DeMint. Jim DeMint wants to fix America’s broken tax system; Inez Tenenbaum just wants to attack her opponent. That’s wrong— it’s bad policy and it is bad politics. In fact, it is Inez Tenenbaum who supported the largest tax increase in South Carolina history— nearly $1 billion! Inez Tenenbaum needs to speak honestly on the tax issue and produce her own plan to reform the unfair, job killing tax code.”
