The last few weeks have been exciting for FreedomWorks Pennsylvania. Our Field Coordinator Joe Hilliard has been leading FreedomWorks' on-the-ground efforts to make real property tax reform a part of the debate in Harrisburg. When lawmakers tried to meet secretly to pursue their narrow political interests, the grassroots rose up and flooded the state capitol with phone calls and emails demanding that the politicians not pull another "midnight pay raise" type of scheme. Through grassroots pressure we were able to ensure that real property tax reform would be part of the debate going forward, and that taxpayers would have a seat at the table.

Pennsylvania Turnpike Commissioners Need to Resign

Another important issue facing Pennsylvania is the mis-management of transportation. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is a case study in government waste, fraud and abuse. As one reporter for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review wrote, “At the turnpike, patronage is almost as routine a practice as handing out tickets at a tollbooth.” With its long history of corruption, patronage and travel junkets, the commission has lost the trust of taxpayers and consumers. FreedomWorks Pennsylvania believes that the commissioners should resign their posts immediately. Pennsylvania should instead pursue market-based solutions such as allowing private companies to lease and manage toll roads in order to meet the state's transportation challenges.

Promoting the Freedom Agenda in Harrisburg

If you are in the Harrisburg area and would like to meet other like-minded conservative activists, you should join us on February 7th. We will be meeting various legislators and their staff to talk about the freedom agenda, including property taxes, the turnpike commission scandal and state spending. We sure could use your help! If you'd like to get involved in this effort, please email Joe Hilliard at email@example.com and we will make sure you have all the information you need.

Keep up the good fight, and remember that freedom works, as long as we do.
