FreedomWorks Sponsors VA-05 Debate

On April 20th, the Virginia Tea Party Patriots Federation hosted a debate between the republican candidates for Virginia’s 5th Congressional District. More than 150 constituents filled Lane Auditorium in Charlottesville, Virginia to hear from the candidates racing to fill Congressman Robert Hurt’s seat after his retirement. The Young Republicans of Faquier County and The Bull Elephant, a Virginia-based blog, co-hosted this two-hour event.

There are four Republican’s vying to take the congressional seat: Tom Garrett, Jr., a state senator from Buckingham; Jim McKelvey, a businessman; Michael Del Rosso, a technology executive; and Joseph Whited, a congressional intelligence adviser. The candidates answered questions, posed by the panel of moderators, ranging from foreign policy to domestic social issues.

FreedomWorks engaged with attendees by passing out information on signature initiatives, including our pro-growth agenda and justice reform. We were able to sign-up new activists, as well as chat with existing members about their work on the ground in the district. FreedomWorks is hopeful that the winner of this race will caucus with the House Freedom Caucus and carry the liberty movement in the House of Representatives.
