FreedomWorks Statement on House Republican Leadership’s Proposal to Punish Dissenting Members

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Following a report that the House Republican Steering Committee may consider a proposal that would formally punish members of the House Republican Caucus for voting against party leadership, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“House Republican leadership has been largely inept in delivering on the conservative promises on which they’ve campaigned on year after year. ObamaCare has not been repealed, government spending is still out of control, and Republicans risk losing seats in the House come November as a result. It’s no wonder House leadership would rather lash out at fellow Republicans than take responsibility for their own mistakes.”

Noah Wall, FreedomWorks Vice-President of Advocacy commented:

“This behind-closed-doors leadership style is hurting Republicans’ chances in the midterm elections. House Republican leadership recoils at the prospect of allowing individual members to actually represent their districts. This is exactly the reason Rep. Jim Jordan is running for Speaker of the House. A principled conservative, he would govern exactly how he campaigns. He would ‘do what we said.’”
