FreedomWorks Statement in Response to Both Chambers of Congress Continuing the Ban on Earmarks

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In response to both the House and the Senate keeping in place the existing ban on earmarks in spending bills, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“We are pleased to see both House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita Lowey and Senate Appropriations Chairman Richard Shelby electing not to revive earmarks this year. FreedomWorks and other advocates for fiscal sanity have long called earmarks what they are: corrupt, pork-barrel giveaways that increase spending and lead to the passage of bad legislation.

“There is no reason that earmarks should be revived, now or ever. We hope this bipartisan agreement in the Capitol to continue the ban will hold in the future, too.”

Earmarks, or spending marked specifically for local projects, have been banned from inclusion in bills in the House and the Senate since 2011.
