FreedomWorks Statement in Response to Release of 2019 CBO Budget Report

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) report, 2019 Long-Term Budget Outlook, Jason Pye, FreedomWorks Vice President of Legislative Affairs, commented:

“Today’s CBO report is yet another warning about the dire state of the United States’ fiscal sustainability. Democrats, as well as most Republicans, have continued to neglect their duties as stewards of the taxpayer and refuse to address the root cause of our budget woes — entitlement spending. The national debt is the greatest existential threat facing the United States today, and unless entitlement spending is seriously addressed in a way that promotes economic growth, our long term fiscal outlook will continue to worsen.”

Steve Moore, FreedomWorks Senior Economic Contributor, commented:

“Let’s be clear, Congress does not have a revenue problem. It has a spending problem. So long as we can hold or cut spending, especially in terms of out of control entitlement programs, economic growth thanks to the strong Trump economy should begin to help take care of the rest.”
