WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In response to reports that the Department of Justice will not approve the T-Mobile-Sprint merger as currently structured, Patrick Hedger, FreedomWorks Foundation Director of Policy, commented:
"Not even a week ago the President stood behind a podium and promised that his administration would work to ensure that the private sector leads the way on 5G. The Justice Department would be violating this commitment by continuing to obstruct the merger of Sprint and T-Mobile, as the companies have put aggressive 5G deployment at the core of their proposed merger.
“Federal anti-trust lawyers have an outdated view of competition. The kind of competition that benefits consumers the most isn't defined by how many competitors there are, but the quality of the competitors themselves. There are nearly 12 times as many basketball teams in the NCAA as there are in the NBA, but an NCAA team versus an NBA team wouldn't be much of a game."
