FreedomWorks Statement of Support for the Administration’s Self-Sufficiency Rule

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) announced final rule today that would help promote self-sufficiency for aliens seeking to enter and remain in the United States, and protect taxpayer dollars, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“FreedomWorks is proud to support acting USCIS Director Ken Cuccinelli in his push for fiscal responsibility and the rule of law.

“Given current economic realities, a steady flow of labor is necessary to maintain the record American economic growth made possible by President Trump and the GOP’s tax cut and deregulatory agenda. However, propping up immigrants with an ever-growing welfare state will stall that economic success and come at the expense of the American taxpayer.

“The ability to refuse entry to individuals who cannot sustain themselves has been part of U.S. immigration law since 1882. Self-sufficiency and the emphasis on the rights of the individual are longtime American values that must be upheld. The DHS’s announced final rule will go a long way towards promoting self-sustainability for aliens who wish to enter and remain within the United States and would codify long-standing precedent.”
