FreedomWorks Supports Move for a Free and Open Internet

Today, the Federal Communications Commission voted to approve a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to undo the massive regulatory structure imposed on the internet by the Obama administration. The proposed rule would return the internet to the light touch regulation that governed its development for the last twenty years.

Adam Brandon, President of FreedomWorks commented, “This is an important step towards protecting innovation and investment in developing the Internet of the future. Obama’s internet regulations were basically a government takeover of the Internet that threatened to replace the permissionless innovation that has worked so well with a new set of internet conduct standards designed and approved by the FCC.

"I don’t think we want a room full of gray-suited bureaucrats running the Internet. My money is on the entrepreneurs and innovators who have built what we have today. There have been very few problems with the Internet under the years of light touch regulation, and when there were issues, the federal government had ample authority to address them. There’s no need for Obama’s Title II regulations that forced the Internet into a regulatory system designed to govern yesterday’s technologies. "This is an important issue, and FreedomWorks will be working hard to help restore Internet freedom."
