FreedomWorks Urges House to Take a Stand for Free Speech

Ahead of a vote in the House of Representatives on the Preventing IRS Abuse and Protecting Free Speech Act (H.R. 5053), introduced by Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.), FreedomWorks CEO Adam Brandon commented:

“Every American has the fundamental right to freedom of speech and freedom of association without the fear of being targeted by their own government. Many of the IRS’s dangerous actions show that they have nothing but contempt for the precious liberties guaranteed by the First Amendment.”

“The Preventing IRS Abuse and Protecting Free Speech Act reaffirms the protections in the First Amendment and ensures the privacy of those who are exercising their rights by giving to groups they support. We urge the House to take a stand for free speech today when this bill comes to the floor for a vote.”

On Monday, FreedomWorks released a key vote alert in support of the Preventing IRS Abuse and Protecting Free Speech Act. FreedomWorks will count the vote on this bill as a key vote when calculating its Congressional Scorecard for 2016. The scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the FreedomFighter Award, which recognizes members of Congress who consistently vote to support economic freedom and individual liberty.
