FreedomWorks Urges Lawmakers to Protect Americans’ Privacy Rights

Over the past several days, some presidential candidates and federal lawmakers have called for the return of warrantless domestic snooping by the National Security Agency and criticized colleagues who supported legislative efforts to protect Americans’ privacy rights. FreedomWorks was on the forefront of the effort to rein in the NSA and restore the Fourth Amendment.

“The terrorist attacks carried out by crazed Islamic radicals in Paris on Friday were barbaric and senseless. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families,” said FreedomWorks CEO Adam Brandon. “Lawmakers have a responsibility to protect America from its enemies while ensuring that our constitutionally protected liberties remain in place. The USA Freedom Act is a not a perfect law, but it was a step in the right direction toward a balance between liberty and security and the beginning of a discussion over surveillance reform.”

“The USA Freedom Act passed the House and Senate with strong bipartisan support. In fact, the effort to pass the law was led in the Senate by constitutional conservatives like Mike Lee and Ted Cruz. We applaud them for their devotion to the Bill of Rights and commitment to individual freedom,” he added.
