FreedomWorks Urges NO Vote on Markey Amendment to HR 5252

Dear Representative:

On behalf of more than 800,000 FreedomWorks members nationwide, I write to urge you to VOTE NO on Rep. Markey’s proposed amendment on ‘network neutrality’. The amendment to H.R. 5252, The Communications Opportunity, Promotion, and Enhancement Act of 2006, would give the federal government massive and unprecedented power over the Internet.

Taxes and government regulation slow down the growth of technological innovation. Government should not create rules that preemptively close off technological evolution and act as a disincentive to private investment.

Concerns that new federal mandates are needed to ‘save’ the Internet are misguided. The FCC already has authority to regulate anticompetitive practices, and healthy competition exists in the broadband sector. In addition, efforts to enforce net neutrality mandates may have the perverse political and economic consequence of consolidating the broadband market even further.

FreedomWorks will count your NO vote on the Markey amendment as a KEY VOTE when calculating the FreedomWorks Economic Scorecard. The FreedomWorks Economic Scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the Jefferson Award, which recognizes Representatives with voting records that support economic freedom.

Sincerely,

Matt Kibbe
