FreedomWorks Versus ACT at Miami Debate

MIAMI, FL. FreedomWorks went head-to-head with the organized Left this week, debating key election and economic issues in South Florida. At the University of Miami, FreedomWorks state director John Hallman was on a panel with a representative from the liberal organization Americans Coming Together (ACT). Both ACT and FreedomWorks are organizing respective Get Out the Vote (GOTV) efforts this election.

The debate took place on Sept. 21, 2004, and was covered by local media and a student-run non-partisan television talk show, which reaches over half a million people in South Florida. Dozens of people attended the 8 PM event entitled “Partisan America.”

ACT is a multi-million dollar group bankrolled by George Soros. It operates primarily in 17 swing states and already has a record of distorting the facts on important economic issues.

At the debate, FreedomWorks Florida Director John Hallman commented:

“FreedomWorks advocates issues instead of supporting a political party. We work so that the election debates will bring out the policy differences between Bush and Kerry and focus on issues people were concerned about like their retirement, education for their children and health care. We need to talk about domestic issues now. No doubt, a healthy and civil debate is good for the process and might bring more people out to vote.”

This debate is a part of the broader citizen education campaign by Florida FreedomWorks, which has John Hallman meeting with groups across the state.
