ObamaCare may be dead in its current form, but Virginians are taking no chances. Two separate bills, one in the House of Delegates and the other in the state Senate, would effectively nullify any attempt by the federal government to mandate that individuals purchase certain health insurance plans.
And yesterday, thanks in part to the tireless efforts of activists like VA Campaign for Liberty's Donna Holt, Senate Bill 417 got a big win.
From Krystal Slivinski at the Tertium Quids blog:
SB 417, a bill that protects Virginia residents from being forced to purchase healthcare coverage, PASSED the Senate Committee on Commerce & Labor, 8-7. THIS IS BIG. Senators Colgan and Puckett crossed party lines to vote for this bill. No one in the room expected the bill to pass the committee, and now the bill goes to the Senate!!... These bills could come up for a vote in the Senate as early as Thursday.
For now, e-mail and call Senators Puckett and Colgan THANKING them for voting yes on SB 417, SB 311, and SB 283. This is as important as calling a committee member to vote. We have to thank these guys and let them know that we appreciate them coming across the aisle to support our effort.
Senator Charles J. Colgan (D) (804) 698-7529 firstname.lastname@example.org
Senator Phillip P. Puckett (D) (804) 698-7538 email@example.com
I just got off the phone myself thanking Sens. Colgan and Puckett for their support of this crucial legislation. Also thanks to Krystal for keeping those of us unable to attend these hearings updated in real time.
And, if you live in Virginia, don't forget about HB10. Its own moment of truth is fast approaching. Make sure to contact any and all delegates on the House Commerce and Labor Sub-Committee #2 to ask for their support.
