House Passes One-Year Delay of Abusive IRS Rules Changes

Washington, DC- The House passed a one-year delay of the proposed IRS rules changes that would threaten to regulate conservative and libertarian 501(c)(4) non-profit groups out of existence. Sponsored by Rep. Dave Camp (R-MI), the “Stop Targeting of Political Beliefs by the IRS Act H.R. 3865” passed the House with unanimous Republican support and 14 Democrat votes.

“The House-passed delay of the IRS proposed rules changes is a step in the right direction, but it’s still not enough. Let’s not forget, these changes were partially engineered by Lois Lerner, the same woman who oversaw the targeting and bullying of conservative groups leading up to the 2012 election,” commented FreedomWorks Executive Vice President, Adam Brandon.

“FreedomWorks will be mobilizing our membership to urge a vote in the Senate, and to use the one-year delay to demand field hearings across the country. We want to know what exactly constitutes a ‘social welfare group,’ how this discretionary authority will be safeguarded against abuse, and how specifically the IRS plans to ensure that the targeting scandal against conservatives and libertarians will not repeat itself. Americans deserve answers.”

FreedomWorks issued a Key Vote “YES” in favor of the Rep. Camp delay bill, and recently submitted a comment to the IRS on behalf of its 6 million members nationwide. The document, signed by FreedomWorks Executive Vice President Adam Brandon, listed the organization’s many objections, along with a call for field hearings.
