CSE Stands Against New Taxes and Advocates Reform

Earlier this week, CSE Executive Vice President Matt Kibbe participated in a tax reform forum hosted by the National Taxpayers Union for congressional staffers. In his remarks, Matt Kibbe discussed:

1. The need for fundamental tax reform;

2. How to engage the grassroots in tax debates; and

3. A roadmap to victory.

Since its inception, CSE has fought against new tax increases and has been at the forefront of the fundamental tax reform movement. Already this year, CSE activists have organized anti-tax campaigns in Alabama, Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, and Oregon. CSE is also engaged in a campaign to make the Bush tax cuts permanent. The Left Has Run Out of Ideas

CSE President Paul Beckner sent a memorandum to Congress highlighting how the Left’s lack of innovative ideas has robbed the American public of an honest political debate about the direction government should take. While the conservative movement has generated ideas to solve our nation’s most pressing public policy concerns, the Left seems resigned to its tactical opposition to those ideas and has refused to offer an agenda of its own. As Paul Beckner writes:

“The Left opposes tax cuts. The Left opposes Social Security reform. The Left opposes choice and competition in education. The Left opposes Medicare reform. The Left opposes tort reform. The Left opposes free trade agreements. The Left opposes, but won’t fight welfare reform. Yes, we know what the Left is opposed to. But does anybody know what the Left stands for?”

In conclusion, he urges conservatives to attack the Left’s intellectual hibernation rather than trying to play it safe or run from important issues. To read Paul Beckner’s memorandum to Congress in its entirety, click here.
