Key Vote to Sustain President Bush’s Veto of WRDA

On behalf of nearly 850,000 FreedomWorks members nationwide, I write to urge you to vote to sustain the President’s veto of the Water Resource Development Act.

The President was right to veto this bloated water projects bill.  Loaded down with special interest pork projects from one coast to the other, the bill goes far beyond the original $4.9 billion the President asked for.

It’s not often that one group wanting $14 billion and another wanting $15 billions find that $23 billion is a “compromise.”

Some Senators and Congressmen have claimed the additional billions that leaders have packed on are essential for national security and infrastructure purposes.  However, this kind of spending goes way beyond what the Army Corp of Engineers has requested to get their job done.

With more than 900 special-interest earmarks, truly essential projects will be lost in a flood of pork that does not set any priorities and makes coastal protections in Louisiana that would guard against future hurricanes compete against hordes of lesser initiatives that cater to the special interest lobby.

Now is an important time for Congress to put its foot down on wasteful, out of control spending by voting to support the President’s veto.

FreedomWorks will count your vote as a KEY VOTE when calculating the FreedomWorks Economic Scorecard. The FreedomWorks Economic Scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the Jefferson Award, which recognizes legislators who demonstrate voting records in support of economic freedom.

Sincerely,
