Key Vote YES on the Nomination of Rep. Mick Mulvaney to Serve as OMB Director

On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your senators and ask them to vote YES on the nomination of Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.) to serve as President Donald Trump’s Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

Rep. Mulvaney, who has a 95 percent lifetime score with FreedomWorks, has been a champion of fiscal conservatism throughout his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, ending 2016 supporting a number of amendments, including:

  • The Perry Amendment to reduce EPA’s funding in the Interior Appropriations bill by 17%,
  • The Blackburn Amendment to reduce funding by 1% to the entire Interior Appropriations bill,
  • The Duffy Amendment to bar new regulatory action of $100 million or more, and
  • The Gosar Amendment to prohibit performance bonuses to senior IRS employees.

He co-authored the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act to lower and cap federal spending and enact a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution. This responsible bill would have met the criteria set forth by Standard & Poor’s, stabilizing the debt as a share of our economy. And it would have changed the way Washington spends our tax dollars.

The Office of Management and Budget is the largest office working in the Executive Office of the President of the United States. As OMB director, Mulvaney would play a large role in preparing President Trump’s Budget, as well as evaluating the degree to which agency programs, policies, and procedures follow the president’s policies.

With Rep. Mulvaney’s history of serious concern and constructive activity toward reining in Washington’s overspending, this nominee deserves our support to take Washington by the horns and fight for responsible spending levels at the federal level. We urge you to contact your senators and ask them to vote YES on the nomination of Rep. Mick Mulvaney to serve as director of the Office of Management and Budget.

FreedomWorks will count the floor vote on this nomination and reserves the right to score any related votes when calculating our Scorecard for 2017.
