Dear FreedomWorks member,
As one of our million-plus members nationwide, I urge you to contact your senators and urge them to vote YES on S.J. Res. 37, a joint resolution to disapprove of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Utility MACT rule under the Congressional Review Act (CRA). Introduced by Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), this resolution will stop the EPA’s new costly regulation that will have devastating effects on American industries and will increase energy prices for American consumers.
The EPA's overzealous regulators have abused their power. The Utility MACT rule would expand the already vast powers given to the EPA by the Clean Air Act, increase red tape and impose billions in new costs on the economy. These new regulations are so complex that many companies have already shut down because they could not afford to comply. In an economy where businesses are struggling to stay afloat and 8.2 percent of Americans are unemployed, increasing job-killing government regulation is not the answer.
Americans could see their energy bills increase anywhere from 10 percent to 19 percent due to the new regulation. The EPA’s Utility MACT will hamper innovation and development in the nation’s energy markets, harming consumers, and the economy as a whole. Americans could see their energy bills increase anywhere from 10 percent to 19 percent due to the new regulation. In addition, the new regulation poses a serious threat to the reliability of the nation’s power grid.
I urge you to call your representatives and ask them to vote YES on S.J. Res. 37., a joint resolution to disapprove a rule promulgated by the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency relating to emission standards for certain steam generating units. We will count their vote as a KEY VOTE when calculating the FreedomWorks Economic Freedom Scorecard for 2012. The Economic Freedom Scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the Jefferson Award, which recognizes members of Congress with voting records that support economic freedom.
