Key Vote YES on These Important Amendments to H.R. 5538, the Department of the Interior Spending Bill

As one of our over 5.7 million FreedomWorks activists nationwide, I urge you to contact your representative and ask them to vote YES on the following amendments to H.R. 5538, the Department of the Interior spending bill. The amendments are needed to make the bill more responsive to the Constitution and taxpayers.

FreedomWorks supports a Key Vote of YES on the following amendments. The summaries below in quotes are from the House Rules Committee:

  • Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.) which “prohibits funds from being used to implement, administer, or enforce a new regulatory action of $100 million or more.”

  • Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) which “imposes a 1 percent across-the-board spending cut to the bill.”

  • Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Ala.) which “ensures that none of the funds made available by this Act may be used for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Criminal Enforcement Division.” The cost and extent of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Criminal Enforcement Division are addressed by this amendment.

  • Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) which “reduces Appropriations made in this Act for the Environmental Protection Agency by 17 percent.” The cost of EPA’s Clean Power Plan to Pennsylvania consumers would be shifted back to the EPA under this amendment.

  • Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) which “ensures that no funds appropriated by this Act can be used to implement, administer, or enforce Davis-Bacon prevailing rate wage requirements.”

  • Rep. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) which “transfers $4,762,000 from the Commission of Fine Arts and the National Capital Arts and Cultural Affairs grant program to the bill’s Spending Reduction Account.” This amendment would help rein in a commission that is costly, duplicative, and an example of over-regulation.

Please contact your representative and ask them to vote YES on these important amendments to H.R. 5538. FreedomWorks will count the votes on these amendments as Key Votes when calculating our House Scorecard for 2016. The scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the FreedomFighter Award, which recognizes Members of the House and Senate who consistently vote to support economic freedom and individual liberty.
