The Kitchen Table Patriots and FreedomWorks support the notion that Pennsylvania parents should have the power and opportunity to choose their child’s school and reap the benefit of free-market competition. Bureaucrats in Harrisburg decide what schools Pennsylvanian children must attend, trapping hundreds of thousands in failing schools. Many proven, successful alternatives exist that can improve competition including traditional public schools, private/parochial schools, charter schools, educational tax credits, vouchers and home-schooling networks. Just as competition helps to produce better everyday products, competition will produce better schools for all Pennsylvanian children.
Bold initiatives like Pennsylvania’s Opportunity Scholarship Act (SB 1405), would expand educational options for children by allowing low-income children trapped in “chronically failing schools” (where at least 40% of children score below basic levels of reading, writing and math) , to attend the school of their choice. Poor performing inner-city schools are some of the most expensive in the state. SB 1405 would save taxpayers money while providing poor children the opportunity to attend a better school.
The Kitchen Table Patriots and FreedomWorks, urge Pennsylvania legislators to support Pennsylvania school choice and sign the “Give Parents a Voice” pledge. Tom Corbett, Pennsylvania’s Attorney General and current Gubernatorial candidate, signed the pledge “to work toward improving the educational system by giving students more educational choices through a school choice program.”
FreedomWorks and its membership base of over 24,000 in Pennsylvania is teaming up with The Kitchen Table Patriots and its group of citizen “liberty lobbyists” to take this campaign state-wide by asking all state legislators to follow the lead of Attorney General Tom Corbett in signing the pledge and making school choice and quality education for all Pennsylvanian students a top priority.
The “Give Pennsylvanian Parents a Voice” Pledge and a list of current signers can be viewed at www.SchoolChoicePA.com.
