Letter to Representative William Thomas

Representative William Thomas

Chairman, Ways and Means Committee

1102 Longworth HOB

Washington, DC 20515

Dear Chairman Thomas:

I am writing to express my support for the consideration and passage of H.R. 2714, the “Date Certain Tax Code Replacement Act of 2001.” Originally sponsored by Congressman Steve Largent, since his departure, Rep. Jim DeMint has been actively pursuing its passage.

I don’t need to convince you that our current tax system is abysmal. You have a long and distinguished record articulating the need for fundamental tax reform. Suffice to say that our tax code has become an unwieldy, punitive behemoth that tries to engineer the lives of the American people.

This system cannot be ‘fixed’ – no amount of cosmetic surgery will make our tax code a fair and honest system that allows citizens to judge whether or not the government is taking a proper amount of their earnings. The only answer is to eliminate the entire system and start over from scratch. I therefore ask that you move to allow consideration of H.R. 2714 by your committee so that it may be paired with the Tax Limitation Amendment scheduled for floor debate next week.

I appreciate your assistance in the matter and will be happy to answer any questions you may have on Citizens for a Sound Economy and our support for this measure.

Sincerely,

Paul Beckner

President
