Market Based Solutions

Dr. David Gratzer is a practicing physician in Canada who debunks many of the views in Sickothat present Canada, Great Britain and elsewhere as far superior health care systems. First, he discredits the claim that waiting rooms in Canada and elsewhere are free of the logjam seen in the United States:

A Canadian government study recently found that only about half of patients are treated in a timely manner, as defined by local medical and hospital associations. “The research merely confirms anecdotal reports of interminable waits,” reported a national newspaper.

In Britain, the Department of Health recently acknowledged that one in eight patients wait more than a year for surgery.

Dr. Gratzer says that ever increasingly Canada and governments across Europe are contracting out their health services to private primary care, relying on the free market to provide the necessary reforms and competition.
