Mourning in America - Here's Those Layoffs We Voted For Last Night

    11/07/2012

Last night's victory for the President marks the first time since its inception that Obamacare is no longer a what-if; it is the future of health care in America.

It also means a near immediate impact on the economy.  With 20 or so new or higher taxes set to be implemented, ranging from a $123 billion surtax on investment income, through the $20 billion medical device tax, all the way down to the $600 million executive compensation limit, Obamacare will be a nearly unbearable tax burden on the economy.

Who will pay?  The middle-class workforce, of course.

So with another four years for President Obama to look forward to, and the obvious inevitability of Obamacare that this entails, let's examine the very real jobs that will be lost, and the very real lives that will be affected.

    Welch Allyn

Welch Allyn, a company that manufactures medical diagnostic equipment in central New York, announced in September that they would be laying off 275 employees, or roughly 10% of their workforce over the next three years.  One of the major reasons discussed for the layoffs was a proactive response to the Medical Device Tax mandated by the new healthcare law.

    Dana Holding Corp.

As recently as a week ago, a global auto parts manufacturing company in Ohio known as Dana Holding Corp., warned their employees of potential layoffs, citing "$24 million over the next six years in additional U.S. health care expenses".  After laying off several white collar staffers, company insiders have hinted at more to come.  The company will have to cover the additional $24 million cost somehow, which will likely equate to numerous cuts in their current workforce of 25,500 worldwide.

    Stryker

One of the biggest medical device manufacturers in the world, Stryker will close their facility in Orchard Park, New York, eliminating 96 jobs in December.  Worse, they plan on countering the medical device tax in Obamacare by slashing 5% of their global workforce - an estimated 1,170 positions.

    Boston Scientific

In October of 2009, Boston Scientific CEO Ray Elliott, warned that proposed taxes in the health care reform bill could "lead to significant job losses" for his company.  Nearly two years later, Elliott announced that the company would be cutting anywhere between 1,200 and 1,400 jobs, while simultaneously shifting investments and workers overseas - to China.

    Medtronic

In March of 2010, medical device maker Medtronic warned that Obamacare taxes could result in a reduction of precisely 1,000 jobs.  That plan became reality when the company cut 500 positions over the summer, with another 500 set for the end of 2013.

    Others

A short list of other companies facing future layoffs at the hands of Obamacare:

    • Smith & Nephew - 770 layoffs
    • Abbott Labs - 700 layoffs
    • Covidien - 595 layoffs
    • Kinetic Concepts - 427 layoffs
    • St. Jude Medical - 300 layoffs
    • Hill Rom - 200 layoffs

Beyond the complete elimination of a significant number of American jobs is another looming problem created by the health care law - a shift from full-time to part-time workers.

Sean Hackbarth of Free Enterprise explains:

A JP Morgan economist "points out that 8.3 million people are working in part-time jobs even though they'd prefer full-time work. Unfortunately, because of President Obama’s health care law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), workers in the hotel, restaurant, and retail industries could be pushed into part-time jobs working less than 30 hours per week."

"Under the health care law, if a company has more than 50 “full time equivalent” workers, a combination of full and part-time employees, but doesn’t offer “affordable” coverage that meets the government’s minimum value standard, the company will have to pay a penalty. This penalty is determined by the number of full-time employees minus 30 full-time employees. So to reiterate a very important point: part-time workers are not part of the penalty formula. The health care law creates a perverse incentive to hire part-time versus full-time workers."

Tangible examples of Obamacare causing a reduction in full-time workers:

    Darden Restaurants

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Darden Restaurants, a casual dining chain best known for their Red Lobster, Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse restaurants, is "experimenting with limiting the hours of some of its workers to avoid health care requirements under the Affordable Care Act when they take effect in 2014".

    JANCOA Janitorial Services

The CEO of JANCOA, Mary Miller, testified to Congress that Obamacare was a "dream killer", adding that one option she had to consider "is reducing the majority of my team members to part-time employment in order to reduce the amount that I will be penalized."

    Kroger

The American retailer in Cincinnati, Ohio recently was reported to be planning a significant slashing of their hourly workers.  Doug Ross writes:

Operative Faith (a mid-level manager with the company) reveals that Kroger will soon join the ranks of Darden Restaurants and slash the hours of its non-exempt (hourly) workers to avoid millions in Obamacare penalties.

According to the source, Obamacare could result in tens of thousands of Kroger employees being limited to working 28 hours per week.

    Summary

This is by no means, meant to be an exhaustive list.  But it is meant to provide examples of real companies, real jobs, and real names, soon to be added to the growing list of employment casualties provided by the inevitable implementation of Obamacare.

Last night, America voted for four more years of President Obama and his destructive economic and health care policies.  By extension, America last night voted their approval of the aforementioned layoffs and overall work reduction.

Now we must accept the inevitable.  Welcome to mourning in America.

Firing someone because they voted for Obama should be illegal. It is illegal to fire someone simply because they're African American,a woman,or a different religion. The companies who fired people because Obama won should all be sued.

I dont no how this obamacare is gonna work ,but the company that I work for 20yrs ,has always given me health care, but now my health care next year ,will have high deductibles that I will have to pay out my pocket ,before any of my medical bills get paid by the insurance company ,all people that are going to lose their jobs, should check and see if this would be a way for your employer to save alot of money, and keep you employed.

Now is the time to focus on our current assets instead of dwelling on coulda shoulda wouldas. We have each other. We love America. We are strong. We know what needs to be done. When the dust settles after the destruction of the next 4 years, we will be prepared to restore America.

You also forgot to mention this temper tantrum is at the expense of their employees, not the company itself. Here is an example of what I mean:

Darden Restaurants posted a $2 billion plus profit last QUARTER. Not year, but quarter. And they can't afford to give healthcare. I know it won't cost $2 billion over 20 years, forget the fact they make that in a single quarter.

Stryker Corporation also posted a $2billion plus profit last Quarter. It sounds like their C-levels want another yacht or car elevator, as opposed to healthy employees.

Dana Holding Corporation posted a measly $56 million profit for the same quarter, and said that the health insurance would cost them $24 million "over the next 6 years". Looks like more of that Republican arithmetic at work.

Kroger made $280 plus million, after increases gas prices because "Increasing tax costs". Doesn't look like they are doing all that terribly bad, considering this is an increase in profits even after the tax increase took effect.

Boston Scientific had an income windfall from the previous year. They went from roughly $46 million to $113 million. That is almost tripling in size, so, I'm not quite sure why they can not afford healthcare.

Welch Allyn is a private company, so it doesn't have to post it's profits. However, CNN did a story on them in 2009, and they average a 16 percent profit margin. The tax increase for medical equipment is 2.3 percent. More Republican math, the company obviously isn't solvent with a 13 percent average net profit rate.

JANCOA might have a case, since they only see a 5 to 10 percent profit margin in their business, according to their CEO Mary Miller, but as a private company, no revenue is required to be posted for public access.

Medtronic saw a first quarter increase of over 5%, and profits of over $860 million. And somehow, the 2.3% medical equipment tax has required them to lay off 500 people, with more in the future?

Profits in companies have never been higher in our history under President Obama, and somehow, he is evil for making sure those profits "trickle down" as the Republicans promise they would do if there are tax cuts. Well, this is the product of a decade of tax cuts and we have a stagnate middle class salary and a C-level salary level that is 10 to 20 times what it was 10 years ago. So, yes, please explain to me how the issue is with the Affordable Care Act and not with the greedy people who run these companies.

Ken, you did not answer one question, Are you a business owner.

Full-time equivalent (FTE) is a unit that indicates the workload of an employed person (or student) in a way that makes workloads comparable[1] across various contexts. FTE is often used to measure a worker's involvement in a project, or to track cost reductions in an organization. An FTE of 1.0 means that the person is equivalent to a full-time worker, while an FTE of 0.5 signals that the worker is only half-time.[2]

    [edit] U.S. federal government

In the U.S. federal government, FTE is defined by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) as the number of total hours worked divided by the maximum number of compensable hours in a full-time schedule as defined by law.[3] For example, if the normal schedule for a quarter is defined as 411.25 hours ( [35 hours per week * (52 weeks per year - 5 weeks regulatory vacation)] / 4), then someone working 100 hours during that quarter represents 100/411.25 = 0.24 FTE. Two employees working in total 400 hours during that same quarterly period represent 0.97 FTE.

The U.S. Office of Management and Budget, or OMB, the President's budget office, will often place upper limits on the total number of FTE that a given agency may utilize each year. In the past, if agencies were given a ceiling on the actual number of employed workers, which was reported on a given day of the year, the agency could employ more than this number for much of the year. Then, as the reporting deadline approached, employees could be let go to reduce the total number to the authorized ceiling on the reporting date. Providing agencies with an FTE ceiling, which is calculated based on the total number of hours worked by all employees throughout the year, irrespective of the total numbers employed at any point in time, prevents agencies from using such a strategy.

ObamaCare dropped the FTE from 35 hours to 30. Have you considered this impact?

The country isn't built on catering to the few, but what is good for the many.

Socialistic aganda, and a a busines owner you 'math' doesnt add up.

    Ken Sullivan
    11/10/2012

You are not a small business if you have 50 Full Time Employees. Just because you have 50 people working for you, that doesn't mean you have that many who qualify as FTE, which is what the guideline is based on. Regardless, no law is perfect, there are going to be exceptions to every rule. The country isn't built on catering to the few, but what is good for the many. This law is good for the many. over 35 million more people have healthcare, seniors have higher discounts on required drugs to survive, children are covered regardless of their pre-existing conditions. Health care coverage shouldn't be a "perk" in the first place. We have the means, technology and financial wherewithal to ensure that we have a health society. The fact that free reign capitalism has turned sickness and death into a billion dollar industry is despicable. Our healthcare system is not designed to cure, but to treat symptoms to perpetuate the billions of dollars in expenditures each year. It isn't really a matter of blame, but of numbers. Look at the current economy and see that company profits are at the highest points they have been in years, worker productivity is also exponentially higher than the previous decades, that the salaries of those that run those companies are at ridiculous high levels and the salaries of the workers are abysmally low and haven't changed much in over 30 years. There is something inherently wrong, just this side of evil, with the current economic system. President Obama isn't to blame, it has been like this since the 70's. The 3.8% tax is a capital gains tax for those over $250k income. Unearned income, which isn't subject to normal payroll taxes or medicare taxes. That has allowed the extraordinarily wealthy (Romney) to get around paying his fair percentage of taxes as the middle class has to pay. He payed 14% ... and that was after fictitiously inflating his income by "not claiming all of his charitable donations". I grow seriously tired of people that make more than 200k whining about paying 3.8% when so many are trying to put food on their families' tables with less than 40 and 50k per year.

    toomas titus
    11/09/2012

Ken Obamacare does not affect a business with 10 employees and will not affect very large businesses that already offer insurance, it will have a big impact on those just over 50 employees so now take your amount times 5 which will get you to 180K for health insurance, thats real money. I think most people would agree the economy is horrible right now, no matter who you blame, so many businesses are on slim profit margins. And don't forget higher taxes for the owner if he makes over 250K, plus the 3.8% Obamacare tax. Question for you, are you a small business owner? I am, and flirt with the 50 employees, I feel it better to reward my great employees in others ways - big bonuses for making my business successful and if they want health insurance they can afford it. It's not a perk to work for a company that offers health insurance, if they 'have to pay' for your insurance why not just give it to you and you buy it

    Ken Sullivan
    11/09/2012

Yes, the conservatives tried that fear tactic, saying that small business wouldn't be able to stay open. Yet another bit of falsehood, and if businesses are closing now (since the law doesn't start until next year), then it is because they are not intelligent business owners who learn about the laws that effect them. Everyone seems to feel that healthcare for groups is this inordinately large expense that buries companies. If it wasn't competitive, then the insurance companies wouldn't and couldn't offer them. No one seems to put out the pricing for group insurance plans for businesses. According to the NFIB (the conservative organization that Fox likes to quote for business intel) says that the average costs for health insurance is roughly $4200 for single, and $11,000 for family plans. The typical business covers 86%. So that is roughly $3600 single, $9400 family per employee , per year. So you have 10 FTE's (Full time employees, 28+hrs/wk), paying them minimum wage at $7.25 (which hasn't changed since 2009). Give them all single plans (you are not required to offer family plans, just required to offer plans), so that is $36,000 per year. Up from 2010 to 2013, you get 35% of this back, as a tax credit, saving you $12,600 and the rest qualifies as a deduction (in most cases according to www.irs.gov). So, now my employees have health insurance and I am paying next to nothing for it accept for the initial start up costs the first year. In 2014, that tax credit will go up to 50%. If businesses are closing, it is because they don't have the initial liquid capital to invest into the healthcare expense in the first place, meaning they weren't doing much on the side of a profitable business, and should look at other means of getting the help they need to stay afloat, like other investors or business loans from the SBA. All this took 15 minutes on the internet, not talking to any accountant or irs individual, so you can imagine, with a little initiative, what else can be deducted from the costs for that also.

Ken, your arguments are in vain. Without even checking the stats you quote, I would not argue. Corporate greed is a problem. I have personally seen companies I worked for lay off thousands of employees citing economic conditions while posting record profits in the same quarter. As I said elsewhere, no system is perfect and evil in one form or another will exist. The question is, which is the lesser of evils. The answer is not socialism and hand-outs. You have to consider what human nature will do with that system just as it does others. And while some companies may use it as an excuse, try doing research on other smaller companies that are literally forced to let people go. You are looking at one side of the fence and making a judgement and not considering the larger picture.

I feel bad for the people who are losing good jobs, but I'm sure I won't be helping the situation in that I won't be buying any big-ticket items--just necessities--lots of non-perishable food and extra water. I can't shake this uneasy feeling of impending doom. Maybe I'm wrong.

Think long term and do some research. Costco has various food supply kits giving the most calorie for the buck with the longest shelf life I have found. Search on ark food supply and browse around at all sorts of related items which are useful.

Check out some other items related to that one on the same site. Breakfast buckets, pasta, etc.
Then you have to have water, actually of course more important than food. Google beprepaired and look up the water drums, 55 gallon.
Call me paranoid... don't really care. I used to kind of think the same of folks but that was because I took for granted the system would always be there... not any more. In the worst case, you have something to back you up in case of natural disaster. Consider all the folks hollering in New Jersey... just were not prepared.

Lastly, you have to have a way to protect your supply. I think you can figure that out.

No worries, I have no affiliation with either company. Just the best I've found so far. If you have some better, throw them back please.

RESEARCH, RESEARCH, wow, how can the blind lead the blind, someone makes an ignorant comment and you believe it hook, line and sinker.

I have Googled at the companies listed above and what i found was:

    1. Corporations that have numerous locations around the world, several have been given BEST employer awards with the number of employees and yes many have asian locations

    2. Many have a history of failed business practices and were going under because of bad investments or poor management practices

    3. I have lived in Kansas and i know that the Airplane and Aerospace industry has always had a history of layoffs, that is due to competitive business not OBamaCare

    4. No one business has ever been given a guarantee that it will be operational forever and that it would employ you as a worker forever

    5. You have options;

    a. Retraining
    b. Additional schooling
    c. Join the military
Not an option, they have free medical, you do not want to be a hypocrite
    d. why are you bsing about health care, i know because you are too use to going to the ER and not paying your bill, typical

    4. Your problem is not anti Democrat or anti President Obama, it is simple, your pissed that your President is Black. Quit your crying and act like a true American and be thankful that the hunger ads that you see of lesser developed countries children with the insects on the faces are not yours.

    God Bless America

PS not one gave this Black American from modest parents a hand out and i make six figures a year.

Since there is going to be name calling and blaming lets get down to it. I guess some of you airheads forgot about all the people that kept trying to discredit Obama by saying he wasn't really Black or American since he is bi-racial but since that didn't work out now you want to blame him for the last mans mess. Everyone has been raised to know that you must try things to see if we can work out issues and sometimes the outcome may not be exactly what you want, hope or expected however if we had to sit through 43 presidents as if everything they did was great you are really crazy. You can handle 2 terms as i have endured many more than that which did not do everything in our best interests.************************************************************************************** ALL companies are not selfish like some of the ones that chose to layoff or cut position status because they do not want to pay more towards the employees benefits to make it more affordable and that has nothing to do with Obama because that is their choice how to handle it. They should do like the company i work for and just take money from elsewhere to put it towards our benefits to make /keep it affordable. I'm sure when those companies hired the employees the promised GREAT- EXCELLENT benefits and was selling the employees on a crock of bull and now that they are forced to offer affordable healthcare and having to take on a lot of the cost they all want to coward their way out and fire people. Should have been looking for ways to save their name by finding ways to offer great healthcare without sacrificing employees. Tell me how in the hell can Romney promise a certain number of new jobs as if he owned all the damn companies here or like he could force them to hire as many people as he was trying to promise would get more jobs. Its one thing to make projections but dont make promises on thing you cant guarantee. RED PEOPLE Romneys own town didnt pull through for him so that should tell you something. You dont want to be her in the USA move your asses to CANADA or CHINA, etc no one wants you here either........NOW to respond to all the racist and other comments because im sick of hearing the many years of crap and the history of the crap.......Ranny Lane ......... kiss me!!! because im one of the assholes. Phyllis Boyse....Lockheed-Martin....should have also been looking for ways around having to lay-off because of any economical changes PERIOD. Sharon Hicks.....no matter what you say you will do the firing, laying off or status changes since you could find a way to pay a little more towards your employees healthcare small company or not i guarantee your bills are paid. My husband works for a family owned business and the owner always talking business is slow yet he grosses $700K a year when he used to gross $350-400K prior to my husband becoming manager yet he offers no benefits at ALL. Seems a bit backwards to me when he is making more than he has in over 30 years sometimes you have to be made to put more profit back into the business rather than making cuts because in the end the employees keep the business going. But i guess you will learn to make do with less like others. JoAnne Phelps.....my only king is Jesus because i give praise to NO man but OBAMA is THE PRESIDENT like it or not. We all came to our senses when more voted to help OBAMA win. I would like to thank BUSH for his mistaken vote. Sometimes folk need to worry about the issues they are concerned with because every man is entitled to their own beliefs and just because i voted one way does not mean i agree with ever belief they have. So the gay and abortion rights you mention are just somethings that presidents are faced with despite their belief just like lawyers that have to defend criminals...it doesnt make them wrong for trying to get them off based on some laws that got passed and it does not make them a bad person it just means sometimes you make have to do things you really dont agree with. Kelly England O'Hara........holla back when your ass is layed off because you DONT WISH BAD UPON NO ONE....IS YOUR JOB IN JEOPARDY since you wishing it upon others that didnt vote RED...come work for my employer no plans to playoff....we will freeze hiring before firing....something others may need to try.************************************************************************************************For all that dont like OBAMA and what he is bringing to the table join the rest of us that felt the same way about past presidents that didnt do the things we wanted. THEY CANT PLEASE EVERYONE so sit back 4 more years and see what he has to offer he is NOT PERFECT and i do believe in trial an error......The president DID NOT raise the prices of food, gas, layoff people or otherwise every since hurricane Katrina the company owners have been just taking ADVANTAGE. Homeowner insurance went up this past year and i didnt have a claim but according to some laws someone passed all homeowners have to take the hit for the affected states. Everything going on in the economy is not because of Obama. ***************************************************************************************************You know what......im just sick of even wasting my time and typing energy. JUST WAIT AND SEE OBAMA HAS OUR BEST INTEREST AND WHEN IT COMES TO LIGHT I BET NONE OF YOU NEGATIVE OR RACISTS PEOPLE WILL APOLOGIZE FOR YOUR STUPIDITY, IGNORANCE OR DOUBT. He is just an imperfect man just like us give him a chance I gave the other 43 a chance and NEVER publicly complained or bashed anyone but i surely will come to defense of OBAMA regardless because racism and bashing just is a waste of your time..LET IT GO!!!!

Yolanda, although you will find many comments here stating the fallout of Obamacare, that is not the primary reason the conservatives oppose Obamacare. I'm actually not a fan basing opposing arguments on the expected fallout because the fallout is rarely as light or as severe as expected (depending upon your perspective. Just because something works or doesn't work doesn't make it right or wrong. My primary opposition to Obamacare is that it is a massive overreach by the federal government. We've reached a point in our society where we completely disregard the sovereignty of the states. If you want to experiment with something that is not expressly permitted to the federal government by the U.S. Constitution, let each state decide how it wants to handle it. (That's the major reason why Romneycare is OK while Obamacare is not.) Unfortunately, there are even many conservatives who do not understand that this is the primary conservative argument. If you want your socialist laws and policies, feel free to implement them on the state level. Limit the federal powers to only what is specifically permitted by the Constitution.

Yolanda: You must not understand why these companies are laying people off. It isn't because they want to--they simply don't have the "other places" to take money from to pay the Obamacare ransom that will be charged. When the penalties were defined for not providing healthcare to workers, it became an economic equation. businesses are in existence to make money: if the bottom line is increased by changing the way benefits are handled when the government gets into the business, they have to make decisions that will let them continue to operate. Big businesses have stockholders to answer to; they are expected to make X profit per quarter. If they don't, people lose their jobs. in order to maintain that bottom line, the easiest equalizer unfortunately is cutting heads. This is why so many Romney supporters supported Romney: he DIDN'T need to see if we can "work out the issues": his experience in business made him uniquely qualified for the problems at hand. Instead, the people wanting everything handed to them won, instead of the people suppporting the less sexy solution.

You say your husband brings home 6 figures: I hope you are saving it somewhere that cannot be touched by the economy. If not, your day is coming when you will regret your choice this past election. For all our sakes, I hope it never comes.

Add to the list the 200+ layoffs at Alloy Surfaces and the merger this week. UGGH! The Obama plan working?? Yeah, right. So much for the military suppliers.

Since there is going to be name calling and blaming lets get down to it. I guess some of you airheads forgot about all the people that kept trying to discredit Obama by saying he wasn't really Black or American since he is bi-racial but since that didn't work out now want to blame him for the last White mans mess. Everyone has been raised to know that you must try things to see if we can work out issues and sometimes the outcome may not be exactly what you want, hope or expected however if we had to sit through 43 presidents just to blame 1 for any of the mistakes any past presidents made then you can sit through 2 terms. ALL companies are not selfish like some of the ones that chose to layoff or cut position status because they do not want to pay more towards the employees benefits to make it more affordable has nothing to do with Obama because that is their choice how to handle it. You know im just sick of even wasting my typing energy.

Maybe people are just fed up with decades of sellout of our jobs aroound the world and bringing them back at Mcdonalds wages. While the one percenters bank accounts get bigger and bigger by just sitting on them while providing third world wages worldwide. As much as i believe in trickle down work hard and get paid for it just isnt there and it should be. So maybe this is just the people speaking out saying give us the opportunity or we can just all go down together. If greed is not challenged it will be the fall of the middle class how can it not be?

Some people say we lost the election because we did not care enough about the Hispanic vote, women reproduction issues, and on and on. Living in NJ and being raised in Hudson County (most corrupt county other than Cook County in the country) I know firsthand why we lost the election. First, not all Hispanics are the same. We fled Cuba to this country to have a better life with limited government back in the early 1970's. We were raised to work hard and push forward. We did not come here because we knew government would take care of us (we hated government) and for the most part still do. I understand we need government for some things, but the nanny state is not one of them. However, most Hispanics do come here to receive government assistance; it is a way of life for them. They feel that they are entitled to all the hand-outs. I no longer live in Hudson County, but I do go back from time to time (not to many Spanish restaurants by me) and the people I grew up with are still there, living in similar apartments, simply living off the backs of others. Let me make this point very clear>>>>> It will not matter if the GOP decides to open the borders (to get on their good side) to possibly get their vote. It will never happen!!! The only thing they care about is getting things for free. Unless the GOP changes (which it better not) we will never win them over.
So where do we go from here? First thing we do is not panic, the sky is not falling. Hispanics and Blacks make up about 25% of the population. The problem as I see it is that the white middle class that elected Obama needs to get a reality check or an education on economics 101. Election do matter and have consequences. Business owners need to band together and start laying people off. If we create an alliance to help each other during this period, we can stand the tide for another 4 years. It is a small price to pay, but a strategy that will pay off in the end. They want to screw the business owner.... no problem. This country needs us for revenue so it can give it to the 47%. With reduction in revenue and massive, I mean massive layoffs (unemployment around 20%) the middle class will not elect another Democrat for some time.
They want to try Socialism, let’s do it. I employ over 625 employees (most of which voted for Obama). I gave them notice today that as of December 15 they will no longer have jobs. I explained to them that more tax hikes are on the way and I am not in business to support the government. On January2013, I will open a new business to employ my family and not hire anyone else until I see the government change its ways.
This is my first time here posting and I welcome all conservative friends to comment and share their thoughts.

It's sad that you had to make such a sacrifice. But I agree. some folks don't get it until it comes home to roost on there door step. We spent a year on unemployment between 2009 and 2010. I would also like to see these unions go down. That is their money supply. 4 four years don't buy american. Hollywood is also a huge supporter. I don't and have not gone and paid to see movies. I won't support that group. I won't support any other liberal group or business if I possibly can help it. I wish there was a place to find a list of such business's that are liberal supporters. God bless you and I wish you well in your new venture. I also am a small business owner, confined now to family. I will not be hiring anyone either.

Rick, although I agree with almost everything you have said here.
My family is middle - class and trust me NONE of us voted for Obama.
I actually don't "personally" know anyone who did.
That's the problem the Obama supporters aren't the ones feeling the results
of their votes! At least NOT yet! Maybe some day they will all wake up!

Wheres the revolution start? Why is it such a "hush hush" word. Are we just going to let socialism take our freedoms away? Its our duty to fight agianst it.....but you wont. You'll be on this web page, complianing, and talking....but it solves nothing. Affirmitive action is all that can save your country. I know, I saw this in my birth country before the communists took over there. Good luck laying down and excepting it...

It is a known fact that conservatives and libertine minded folks are the most generous and charitable. We work with in our communities and with each other sans coercive tactics from the government. Red states help out a lot more during disasters. Remember that as most disasters occur in those blue states. Let those people suffer the indignation of begging for aid in this blue states. Quit helping out and quit giving. Let the government do it as that is what those people want. Help your family and friends. Help your like minded communities. Quit helping the people that want bigger government. Do as Ayn Rand suggested in Atlas Shrugged. Quit supporting the system that squashes you. Form your own net works. Farm. Get your weapons now and hide them. Be quite about what you have. Store foods. Create your own market and interact as little with the bluies as little as you can.

Let the system collapse because your hard work no longer feeds the monsters that rape you.

Maybe his new secretary of business will be the czar who takes over these businesses like he took over GM. He will force them to rehire employees in the name of "investing" in the American people. He could call it a national emergency and he can't let these evil rich CEOs get away with this. After all, during the campaign, he said he would do to manufacturing what he did to GM and that was, he took them over and told them how to run their business and what funny cars to build. He knew these job losses were coming. He planned them from the start. They were built in to Obamacare.

The Republicans were the ones that put these problems in place, not Obama or the Democrats. Had they been willing to cooperate with the original plan, this discussion owuld not be taking place.

@Gail Coleman The one racist comment I noted in this thread (which I do not approve of) does not invalidate the reality of the direction we are heading. This truly has nothing to do with race, gender, etc. and everything to do with policy and the choices leading to the sustaining, or lack thereof, of our societal fabric. No system is perfect, you are correct, and I say the same all the time (tons of evil is able to thrive in any system – for evil will always be); but some systems are much worse than others and will speed the destruction of our society at worst, or at best, put us in a much worse situation than where we started. It serves you little to dismiss someone because they make immature remarks out of anger – people, just as systems (as you point out), are also not perfect. If I knew for certain the world would end tomorrow and informed you of this while calling the person responsible a name, you would be little served to rail against me because of my derogatory comment. The world would end all the same. And when I and others tell you the direction we are heading will lead to more poverty and suffering in this nation, it really does not matter what you think, or what your politics are, it will come to pass. Try picking up the history books and see where this form of policy will end. Remember this, you are a slave to those who you depend on. What power they exert over you is virtually limitless when you cannot even eat without their help. We are setting up a full-fledged system of governmental dependence and if you think that is a good thing, I am very sad for you. It is a most curious thing when people themselves beg to be enslaved and sing praises to their enslaver – it seems rather like the wife who keeps bailing her abusive husband out of jail. It's some sort of strange psychological thing that I just can't quite fathom. Do me this favor. Burn this exchange deep in your memory and remind me I was wrong years down the road. But what will your excuse be then? I suppose that some folks said some unfriendly things and thus they were all wrong, and your current situation is pure coincidence.
