A government with moral and legal authority promulgates written rules and universally, impartially and uniformly enforces the rules, which provides a predictable and stable legal order on which to base economic and personal decisions. The law prevails, not the proclamation or arbitrary decision of a ruler, government bureaucrat, the enforcer (e.g., policeman) or judge. The Obama-Pelosi Lame Duck Strategy
Union 'card-check,' cap and trade, and so much more
John Fund in the Wall Street observes signs that major legislation is being deferred until after the November elections. The Democrats want to enact major legislation concerning taxes, the environment, immigration and much more. None are overly popular with the public. Thus in the period after the election and before the newly elected Members of Congress are installed, there will be an opportunity enact major and far reaching legislation. The following represent some of the statement of intent:
In the House, Arizona Rep. Raul Grijalva, co-chairman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, told reporters last month that for bills like "card check"—the measure to curb secret-ballot union elections—"the lame duck would be the last chance, quite honestly, for the foreseeable future."
Passing major legislation in the interim before new Members of Congress are installed violates a core element of a democracy - an elected politician is answerable to his or her constituents. It would be morally wrong to pass major legislation, using the votes of unaccountable politicians.
Worse for democracy in America, contemplating and proposing using the “lame duck session” continues to erode the moral authority of Congress. Already, America is appalled by the deals, bribes and threats used by Pelosi and Reid to pass ObmaCare. Unfortunately, the politicians obsession with power often previals over moral standards.
Only, an active and outraged public can prevent “lame duck” disasters. Join FreedomWorks and tell your elected representatives their will be no “lame duck” legislation.
