Social Security reform subject of Tuesday meeting

STRATHAM – Social Security reform will be the topic of a presentation Tuesday evening by Michael Tanner, director of health and welfare studies at the Cato Institute in Washington, D.C.

“A Social Security System for the 21st Century,” scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Stratham Community Church Hall, will highlight the need for reform and the benefits of personal retirement accounts.

New Hampshire Citizens for a Sound Economy and the Seacoast Federation of Republican Women are hosting the free town hall-style presentation. The public is invited to attend.

“We are honored that Dr. Tanner has agreed to make a second visit to New Hampshire to discuss with us the facets of Social Security and the benefits of reform,” said Chuck McGee, state director of the citizens group. “Dr. Tanner is recognized nationally as a leader on this issue, and he brings a very understandable approach to a very complex issue.”

The goal of N.H. CSE, in partnership with For Our Grandchildren, is to make the issue of Social Security a subject of discussion during the New Hampshire presidential primary campaign.

Tuesday’s presentation will mark the sixth event in the “Choose Your Future” Social Security reform tour.

“The ‘Choose Your Future’ tour is gaining momentum with each and every event,” said McGee, “and we are looking forward to having Dr. Tanner come to New Hampshire and highlight the issue of Social Security reform. When it is all said and done, we believe the candidates for president will have little choice but to address this issue.”
