Stop the Establishment from Rewriting the RNC Rules

As you may know the Romney camp is pushing new rules, specifically Rule 15, which would strip grassroots activists of any meaningful ability to participate in presidential politics. The process has always been bottom-up, but Romney officials have rewritten the rules so that the nominee can stifle any dissent on the platform committee and even unseat delegates. Make no mistake, this will weaken the process by which Republicans chose their candidate for president and push the grassroots out of the party process.

From Buzzfeed reporter Zeke Miller: "The Republican National Convention Rules Committee voted 63-38 to approve a new rule allowing granting the Republican National Committee — and Mitt Romney — sweeping new powers to amend the governing document of the GOP.

The move came at the encouragement of Mitt Romney supporters on the committee, including Romney's top lawyer Ben Ginsberg, who stressed that it would grant "flexibility" to Romney and the committee to adapt to changing political environments. The rule allows the RNC to amend the party's rules without a vote by the full Republican National Convention. And it offers the Republican Establishment a new tool to keep at b[a]y Tea Party initiatives that threaten to embarrass or contradict party leadership and stray from a planned message." (emphasis added)

UPDATE: Locate the phone number of your state's delegates on the Rules Committee here, call them immediately, and tell them to oppose Romney's Rule 15, that strips grassroots activists of the ability to participate in the Republican platform process.

So, now I'm totally not sure - if I should even vote in these elections! So disappointed and tempted to just 'not deal with any of it'.

He hasn't even gotten past the nomination process and he is already trying to take control of the Party. So many of us have been trying to warn people about him but no one wants to listen, it's "Obama must go" which is looking like we will be no better off. Maybe more jobs but he may have to say how we run them.

If the GOP continues to try and control who we choose like this, I will vote for obama! They have it coming to them! It's what they deserve! I'm also not convinced that Mitt won't be to us like Edie Ameen was to Ethiopia.
And what's this scuttle but I hear that not all the Ron Paul delegates will not be recognized at the convention? The federal government does not have the right to eclipse states rights. The GOP needs to listen to "We the People" instead of giving us "just a lighter version of socialism" than the dems are. We don't want socialism period. America is suppose to be a free nation. How can we call ourselves free when we can't even choose the candidates we like?
Also, the mormons believe they are going to rescue the Constitution as it hangs by a thread. How can they rescue it when they're violating the very principles it incorporates?

This is exactly why I wasn't happy with Mitt Romney as the parties candidate. I'm not sure he is any different than Obama. If he doesn't want in-put from the people who elected him, he's the same thing we have now. What my belief is, we don't really have two totally different ideologies in the two parties, but in fact, it's the same ideology in both parties and is controlled by the same group who put Obama in office. If that's the case, our country has been sold out no matter who we vote for. We'll see how it goes on the Rule 15 vote.

Voting for MR at this point is much worse than voting for the lesser of two evils! This is the best reason of all not to vote for him! His campaign is showing us who and what he truely is. Here it is right here in your face, showing you the truth and what you can expect. Don't say you didn't see it coming! You are deceiving yourself if you think things will be any different if he gets into office. You have been warned!

This is U.K. Conservative Party in America!!!
I just returned yesterday from the U.K. I learned a lot from that experience, my second trip. In my opinion and from my observation, the GOP has become a socialist conservative party just like in the U.K. This action by the GOP, Romney and his lawyer, and the RNC Committee just proves it for me. We have limited time to get Romney elected only to buy us time. Then the next very hard job is for us to prevent any socialist agenda for four years AND immediately find a true Conservative Libertarian candidate for 2016. It is obvious to me our country is now politically socialist but we the people are not. I suggest the EPA be replaced by a new EPA. The Environmental Political Agency. An agency staffed by conservative grassroots that ensures the politcal environment, everyone from the President to the local Committee Men and Woman, hold to the U.S. and State Constitutions. Pray daily or more often for Our Country!

    Philip Boncer
    08/27/2012

The RNC apparently doesn't even care about *looking* ethical anymore. They'll openly cheat and steal to get their coronation of their chosen boy done without any chance of it being "spoiled" by any dissent, competition, or integrity.

They've tipped their hand completely, and revealed corruption just as deep as the Democrats.

To hell with that. This level of corruption is past remediation. Even if they win the election, and do us all the great service of repealing ObamaCare, they still will not ever get my vote.

It's not even worth sending them a message by writing in Ron Paul any more; they can't hear it and don't care. Dr. Paul's hope of trying to reform the party from within is shown to be unrealistic.

Sorry Mr. Poy, but the damage is done. Romney has shwon himself to be just as power-hungry and unethical as Obama -- not even a lesser of the two evils -- and not worth supporting.

Gary Johnson gets my vote now.

I just talked to the delegate from Texas, since that's where I'm from. He said that our prayers have been answered, and that the Romney campaign backed down and took out the language that could remove delegates. He had signed the minority report and fought for it. He said that he had just found out minutes ago and to spread the word. WE WON!!!!!!

The delegates from our great state of Washington were briefed on this issue at breakfast in Tampa this morning. This is truly disappointing that all voices are not encouraged to be heard during such an important election. This sounds like someone trying to shut out our voice and push through their own agenda, that obviously has no room for any difference of opinion. And, our platform includes "Obama is a nice guy just incompetent." Really! Shades of McCain. Nice guy my foot. His hate for this country, especially, conservatives is so rock solid it's sickening. And he isn't incompetent he is deliberate. This country needs a hero, not some panty waist who just wants to get along. You don't take a mouse to a dog fight. You take the biggest, baddest (sp?), butt chewing dog you can get. RNC take the gloves off and give us a fight we can all be proud of -- don't stifle our voices.

    Nate Randall
    08/27/2012

For some time the RNC' motto has been "Keep it small, take it all". Apparently they want the party to get even smaller than it already is!!

This rule change will inflict irrevocable and irreversibly devastating consequences upon State and local republican party organizations across the country. Most notably the proposed rule change is guaranteed to drive large numbers of dedicated party activists away from the Republican Party. Furthermore the proposed rule change would guarantee permanent decreased participation in precinct caucuses, county conventions, district conventions and state conventions for decades. Moreover the proposed rule change would permanently reduce membership and general enthusiasm within local GOP organizations throughout the country.

    Good job Romney!

I just emailed a friend who is a Colorado delegate at the convention. She said this came from an RNC lawyer, not the Romney camp. They worked this morning on blocking this and she says they have enough states to vote tomorrow to do so. Romney was not involved in this power grab.

Is anyone surprised!? I doubt it. Disgusted is probably more like it, hopefully you are not turning to apathy, as tempting as it may be. I was speaking with an old college friend recently - he grew up in Venezuela. I mentioned that I was hearing more about 'Patriots not voting -- i.e. walking out of the process altogether', he said that is what happened in Venezuela - the opposition (to Chavez) thought they were acting prudently by refusing to go to the polls -- however, it was all handed over to Chavez.

There is a difference though between our Government and the Venezuelan one. We have 50 Sovereign States who can and I believe will resist the Federal Government. Granted not all the States... California, Mass., Ill., N.Y., Hawaii, Vermont, W.V., and a handful of others. However, our founding fathers planned for this exact moment in our history - that is why 3/4ths' (38) of the States control the Constitution and the Federal Government.

Federal Elections were NEVER intended to reform a corrupt central Government.

When will the States (38) rise up to challenge and turn this ship around? When YOU wake up - and stop placing your hope in Federal Elections, when you learn about what our Founding Fathers said regarding a run away Federal Government. When you learn that the Supreme Court was never intended to be the arbitrator of the U.S. Constitution (the States were and ARE) (they simply have fallen asleep).

When you start focusing your efforts on the '38' States --- regardless of whether or not you live in one of the '38'. Or... not.. go back to these petty Rep. vs. Dem. politics.

I think either the Rinos in the party or The Paulbots are pushing this to try & break us up!!! Because they know they are losing & must do something big to divide us!!! "At this point" a vote for "anyone other then Romney & Ryan" is a "VOTE FOR OBAMA"!!!! I don't like Romney that much but, if we don't vote for the only man that has "A CHANCE" against the COMMIE, CRIMINAL, RACIST, FRAUD RIGHT NOW there will be "NO ELECTION COME 2016"!!!! "WE THE PEOPLE" can vote in a 3rd party in 2016, right now it has "NO CHANCE" of winning ENOUGH to beat "THE COMMIE"!!! "WE THE PEOPLE MUST STICK TOGETHER" otherwise OBAMA WINS!!! :-( For now we have to suck it up & keep are eye on THE PRIZE, which is getting the "AMERICA HATING COMMIE OUT"!!!! The people that want OBAMA TO WIN is trying a last minute hail mary to DIVIDE US!!!! DON'T LET IT HAPPEN!!! We can always throw Romney out in 2016!!! Four more years of THE COMMIE & there WON'T BE NO ELECTION IN 2016 or NO AMERICA!!!! :-(

I am still not sure what they are trying to do with this Motion or rule change, No one has actually posted the rule change that is to be voted on? Is it to stop pledged delegates from changing who they are pledged to is it, that only certain people can offer or vote on changes? Everyone seems to be all fired up but no one has posted what exactly is going on?? It reminds me of arguing with a Democrat that has no facts only emotion and what they have been told by some one?
No Offense meant but before i get worked into a tizzy I want to understand it?

This is a man that has no concerns about freedom or work. I urge you to check into his background. You may be surprised at what you learn. I've spent weeks trying to dissuade a fellow tea party patriot from voting libertarian or writing in Ron Paul because he feels there really is no difference between Romney and Obama. I've been trying to convince him that a vote for anyone other than Romney would amount to a vote for Obama and although I'm no big fan of Romney, he would still be a better alternative to Obummer. Now Romney pulls this....? If the GOP goes along with this, looks like I'm going to have to eat my words and leave the party I've been affiliated with ever since I was old enough to vote for Reagan's first term. I'm getting real tired of this party trying to be Democrat Lite. Listen up GOP! Either stand up for something, or sit down and let someone else lead!

    Joe Gonzalez
    08/27/2012

First things first. We need to work on getting the Minority Report accepted by the state delegations so we will have a say in 2016 at the state level.

I'm for Ron Paul but will need to vote for Romney to stop Obama's role-out of his Marxist policies. If the RNC changes the rules, we will have to vote Romney in but have to increase the level of Conservative Congressmen and Senators to offset Romney's potential for harm. I will probably then leave the Republican Party over the implementing of the new rules. These are challenging and confusing times so we have to keep our collective options open (Minority Rules passage) so we can have an effect in state and national politics in 2014 and 2016.

As it stands now, there might not be a 2012 election if Obama does a false flag and cancels the election along with martial law. Let's take it one step at a time. What say you?

I think some people are woken up....And at this point it's either vote for the "MUCH LESSER OF TWO EVILS" or "NOT HAVE AN ELECTION" come 2016!!! :-( We can break the cycle in 2016 when we have more Conservatives in BOTH houses & we actually "HAVE A CHANCE TO PUT IN THE CANDIDATE WE THE PEOPLE WANT"! A vote for "ANYONE ELSE but, ROMNEY AT THIS POINT" is a "VOTE FOR OBAMA!!!! Sorry to say!!! :-(

    deb.roberson
    08/27/2012

Mike - if we continue to vote for "the lesser evil" we will never, ever break the cycle. The ONLY way the GOP will front a decent candidate is if the voters consistently refuse to support their status-quo candidates. Obama is bad, yes, but better 4 more years of him with a clear message to the GOP for a decent candidate in 2016 than a never-ending string of candidates that will continue to run our country into the ground. Wake Up! Please!

    Mike Watts

Our best chance is to vote for Romney despite his flaws. Voting for Johnson will ensure that Obama gets 4 more years to destroy us. If you have not seen the movie documentary 2016 make sure to go see it. This is truly an election between the American Dream and Obama's dream.
