U.S. Senator Russ Feingold and Personal Retirement Accounts

Jackson, WI – Senator Russ Feingold has drawn the line in the sand between himself and the 64% of Americans who want some sort of personal retirement accounts in the Social Security program.

At a Feingold “Listening Session,” Senator Feingold shot down the possibility of PRA’s, noting that, “[they] would undermine Social Security.” In elaboration, his concerns were of lost retirement security; that PRA’s do not provide the safety net that Social Security does.

In earlier comments from 2001, Feingold stated, “Wouldn’t the kind of reforms endorsed by Wisconsinites in this survey be more certain to contribute to Social Security’s solvency than privatizing two percent of the program?”

It would seem Feingold still believes that politicians in Washington, D.C. know best how to secure our retirement.

“Feingold is wrong on Social Security. Giving American workers real ownership of their retirement savings is the only way to save Social Security and to ensure that these resources are available in the future. It’s imperative that Wisconsinites start demanding real solutions to the pending Social Security insolvency. Any rhetoric from Feingold on Social Security is hollow if he is unwilling to secure our future by allowing every American the chance to own a share of the US economy and our collective future,” stated WI CSE State Director Cameron Sholty.
