Wake County Says No to Tax Increase

On Friday June 15, the Wake County Board of Commissioners formally agreed not to raise taxes as part of their upcoming budget.

Jonathan Hill, Director of North Carolina Citizens for a Sound Economy (NC CSE), issued the following statement on the Wake County Board of Commissioners’ decision not to raise property taxes:

“We want to congratulate Chairman Michael Weeks and the rest of the Wake County commissioners who had the courage not to raise property taxes and more particularly to ask for more accountability on how the Wake County Board of Education spends the taxpayers’ money.

“We think what these Commissioners have done is not only good for taxpayers, but it is also a positive step forward in keeping our Board of Education more focused on the instructional needs of children.

“We at North Carolina Citizens for a Sound Economy have been at the forefront of this fight against higher taxes and more accountability in educational spending in Wake County for months. Our over 1,800 members in Wake County will continue to fight for lower taxes and a more efficient and accountable government.”
