Workshop Explores Gambling

The Christian Action League of North Carolina is hosting a free workshop, “The Christian Looks at Gambling,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Education Building at First Baptist Church, 301 S. Davidson St.

The event is for anyone concerned about N.C. legislation of state-sponsored gambling through a lottery. It will focus on the harmful impact of state-sponsored gambling.

Workshop participants include Chuck Neely, chairman of the Citizens United Against the Lottery; Jason Saine, grassroots manager for Western North Carolina, Citizens for a Sound Economy Foundation; Bill Brooks, president and executive director of the N.C. Policy Council; Coy Privette, president N.C. Christian Action League; and the Rev. Mark Creech, executive director, Christian Action League of North Carolina.

The workshop is open to the public.

Elizabeth Lee of Providence United Methodist Church in Charlotte was honored May 22 during the opening of the new Elizabeth Lee Lifespan Senior Center, named in her honor.

Kathy Lofgren has joined Providence United Methodist Church as its part-time financial assistant. She will handle contributions and accounts payable.

Grant Endicott has become the new headmaster at Northside Christian Academy. Endicott and his wife, Caroline, are from Garland, Texas. They have two children, Christina and Connor.

Marilyn Bollinger has accepted the newly created position of coordinator of family ministries at Christ the King church in Charlotte. Bollinger has served as the church’s coordinator of children’s ministries for six years.

Sue Coonen has retired from the position of parish administrator at St. Peter ‘s Episcopal Church. Tiffany Tucker, former parish secretary, will assume her previous responsibilities.

David Pittman will begin his ministry Sunday at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

Jennifer Sanders has become the new children’s program coordinator at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Charlotte.
