Enough Political Games, Procedural Tricks and Posturing - Defund Obamacare

The current fight to defund Obamacare seems incomprehensible to many inside the Beltway. They explain with pious snark and dismissive ridicule that it is not a fight that can be won. They say that despite the federal government needing the House's approval to spend money, the House's approval is not really needed for the federal government to spend money. Well, the House's approval is needed, and Republicans won the House two elections in a row. This defunding CR should have happened in January, 2011. It should happen now.

Illinois Budget Failures Continue

The State of Illinois is a basket case.  Unable to control its reckless spending, the state legislature approved a budget that calls for higher spending, even though the state has billions in unpaid bills and tens of billions in unfunded pensions. The pension problem, and the promises officials have made to state workers to get their votes, are now too big to ignore.

How Many Demons Can Dance On the Head of a Sequester?

Our government is too big. The crisis of the moment, the so-called sequester, won't do anything to change that. Our nation needs a plan to reduce government spending dramatically, rapidly, and in accordance with our needs. Until then, however, the sequester is better than nothing, and far better than any proposal to change it.In addition, the sequester is the law of the land. That means something, we were told. At any rate, failing to implement the sequester or equivalent cuts is now a spending increase. Those demonizing the sequester with scare tactics will attempt to blame it and fiscal conservatives for any negative economic news in the future. But they always do that. When you will be blamed either way, the right thing to do is to do the right thing.
