CSE Cheers John Snow Appointment to Treasury

Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE) applauds the nomination of tax reform advocate John Snow as Secretary of Treasury. Snow served on the CSE’s Board of Directors in 1988 and 1989, where he advised CSE’s grassroots campaigns in support of lower taxes and free market economic policy.

Snow’s commitment to pro-growth tax policy also includes his work as a member of the National Commission on Economic Growth and Tax Reform, also known as the Kemp Commission, which in 1996 recommended a scrapping the tax code and replacing it with a flat tax.

Paul Beckner commented: “The selection of John Snow shows that the Bush Administration is serious about passing fundamental tax reform in the next two years. John Snow understands the issues at stake and is well equipped to make the case to the American people and Congress.

“As a former CSE Board member, John Snow demonstrated his commitment to free markets and lower taxes. Through his work at CSE, he clearly understands the importance of building grassroots support for public policy changes that are good for the country.

“Further, as the highly successful executive of CSX Corp., Snow has ‘Main Street’ business experience and first-hand knowledge of the benefits of deregulation in the railroad industry.

“CSE shares Snow’s commitment to lower taxes and the need for fundamental tax reform. The time is right to pass a new economic stimulus and lay the groundwork for fundamental tax reform. That’s why it is critical that the Senate moves quickly to confirm the President’s excellent choice to lead the Treasury Department. CSE looks forward to continuing our work with John Snow to implement sound tax policies that are good for America.”
