Two CSE Activists Speak At Capitol Hill Rally

Two North Carolina Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE) members participated in a Capitol Hill Rally with House and Senate leaders today to explain how President Bush’s jobs and growth plan will benefit them.

The two NC members – Martha Jenkins of Chapel Hill and Bob Bateman of Hillsborough – came to Washington as part a group of almost two hundred CSE members from North Carolina. The group boarded four buses that left NC at midnight this morning and drove to Washington for a day of rallying and lobbying for the President’s tax plan and then returning to NC that same evening.

Details about the two members:

Martha Jenkins of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Martha is a mom who owns a small, satellite TV company that operates as an S-Corp which files taxes as a small business. Her business is currently suffering: she used to operate two locations, but due to bad business had to scale back to one. A tax cut would allow her company to grow so that she could consider buying a new van, hiring one or two new employees, and invest in her small business’ overall infrastructure. Martha also

has two children and would benefit from additional money coming from a child tax credit.

Bob Bateman of Hillsborough, North Carolina. Bob is a senior citizen in his 70s, retired, and a Democrat. He is a former school board member and believes the President’s plan is a common sense approach to put more money into the economy and get things moving again.
