Pennsylvania Passes School Choice Legislation

After being on the ground and fighting for education reform for nearly 2 years, our FreedomWorks field team in Pennsylvania received some great news on School Choice as of late Saturday evening, June 30th, when HB761 passed both chambers right before the midnight budget deadline.  Governor Tom Corbett signed the bill into law that same night along with an on-time budget.  A school choice voucher program was one of the Governor's top priorities during his campaign in 2010 and we are thrilled to see movement in the right direction.

One Myth at a Time..."Those Kids Can't Learn."

On Wednesday, I was a guest on a local radio show broadcasting out of Harrisburg.  During the 45 minute interview, I was to discuss school choice and why FreedomWorks is supporting vouchers.  Unlike many of the interviews I have done in the past, this one was downright hostile.  Not suspecting the amount of misinformation being spread about vouchers, I was caught off guard by a caller who took time to lash out about FreedomWorks stance on the issue.

Help Save Pennsylvania Children: Support School Choice

For more than a year FreedomWorks and local activists have been working hard to bring education reform to Pennsylvania. Concerned families, school choice supporters, bold legislators and even the governor himself have stood up with us against Pennsylvania's education establishment in an effort to reform the state's failing school system. Despite this bi-partisan support, some legislators have chosen to ignore the voters, failing to protect the needs of students, and instead voting to preserve union power.

"Stupid in America" A Message from John Stossel on America's Failing Schools

Yesterday, FreedomWorks hosted a special guest, the Fox Business Network’s John Stossel to take over our Twitter account and discuss his new book, “No They Can’t.”  During this special event, I had the opportunity to ask Mr. Stossel questions about something near and dear to my heart: education reform.  Mr. Stossel is a libertarian who came to fame on ABC’s 20/20, but came around to libertarianism later in life after witnessing the failures of big government.
