When a school is failing, it seems reasonable that parents can effect change in that school. In California, the Parent Trigger law enables parents to overhaul a school if it is failing their children.

Last week, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) debated the funding of Common Core, deciding to delay approval on the proposed $113 million implementation budget. The board waited a week to decide, over the objections of board members who wanted the approval as rushed as the rest of Common Core has been.

Southern California Port Strikes Costing $1 Billion per Day

At the end of November, a workers’ strike closed the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach California. Workers from the International Longshore and Warehouse Union walked off the job on November 27, and nearly all container terminals were closed. Approximately 40% of the nation’s imports are handled at these ports, and it is vital to the region’s economy.
