Ohio Becomes Medicaid Expansion Twilight Zone

Ohio has become a Medicaid expansion Twilight Zone, as avowedly conservative Governor John Kasich works with progressive activists to deliver new entitlement benefits with money that doesn't exist. Ohio's press, which loves the idea of "free" federal funding through the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), repeats pro-expansion falsehoods without a hint of skepticism.

Republicans Want to Give Obama More Power? Why Do We Lose Elections?

In the constant stream of pixels, ions, electrons and hot air that passes by at a constant and overwhelming rate that is akin to the speed of light, two articles caught my attention on Wednesday. The latest waste of attention is on the looming sequester cuts that are set to hit on Friday, that would have the 'devastating' effect of cutting $85 Billion in budget increases from a non-budget that is already over a trillion in the hole.

The Fallacy of Government Assistance

Throughout American history, there have always been those that have fallen on hard times.  From British poor laws, brought over by the colonists, to today’s myriad of welfare programs, America has a strong foundation of seeking to help those in need.  However, what started as a very simple program has become convoluted, corrupted and ultimately fails to lift people from poverty to prosperity.  While examples of government assistance failures abound, none may be so evident as that of the current situation in New Mexico.

Kasich Pitches Obamacare Surrender as Pragmatism

Ohio Governor John Kasich announced his surrender to Washington spending gimmicks on February 4, calling for the expansion of Medicaid eligibility as part of his biennial budget proposal. Kasich, a Republican elected in 2010 and known as a fiscal hawk from his time in Congress, seeks to sell a key component of Obamacare as the pragmatic choice for Ohio.

Are Republicans Set to Cave on Tax Hikes?

A skilled poker player as they say, never shows his cards. Republicans seemingly haven't heard such advice.  With 'fiscal cliff' negotiations taking place in the media of late, they are proving to be poor poker players, poor negotiators, and all-too-willing to fold.

Will President Romney Seriously Tackle Entitlement Reform?

In the aftermath of the first Presidential debate last week, I wrote that it was an unmitigated success for Republican challenger Mitt Romney. While it was clear that it was a thorough tactical defeat that has vaulted Romney in the polls and placed Obama permanently on defense for the remainder of the campaign, there was a notable lack of focus on debt reduction.

Obamacare SCOTUS Fever Has No Cure

The countdown has begun. The time of year normally reserved for excitement only among baseball fans and out of school students has an added political component that's unusual even for a presidential election year: a nation breathlessly awaiting a Supreme Court decision that could swing that election.

Obamacare: It's The Bureaucracy, Stupid

While being interviewed by a progressive author for a book about conservatives a few years ago, I was asked why I thought the government shouldn't be running health care in America. I replied that it wasn't so much that I thought it shouldn't but that I thought it couldn't, at least with any semblance of efficiency or cost-effectiveness.

Tell Your Representative to Cosponsor H.R. 4160, the State Health Flexibility Act

As one of our million-plus FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to cosponsor H.R. 4160, the State Health Flexibility Act. Introduced by Rep. Todd Rokita (R-IN), the bill would block grant Medicaid and S-CHIP to the states. The current Medicaid system is based on top-down regulatory controls from Washington. State governments shoulder roughly half of Medicaid’s annual costs but they have virtually no say on how it is run.

The Entitlement Deficit: America’s Other National Debt

On May 16, 2011, the US public debt once again reached the debt ceiling (the legal cap set by Congress for how much the United States is allowed to borrow). The United States’ debt now stands at around 14.3 trillion dollars.  A quick visit to usdebtclock.org shows that the United States now owes around $46,000 dollars per citizen and over $129,000 per taxpayer. Those are big numbers; numbers big enough to get many lawmakers on both side of the aisle talking about reducing the deficit.
