Build a Better Bill: GOP Senate Must Save ObamaCare Repeal Once Again

It’s no secret that my organization, FreedomWorks, had serious concerns with the American Health Care Act. The amendment negotiated by Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-N.J.) and Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) to allow states to define their own community rating and essential health benefits was a step in the right direction, but further improvements must be made as the bill works its way through the Senate. As Meadows said during the House debate over the AHCA, “The American people are going to care about one thing, and that’s premiums going down.”

Support the Restoring Internet Freedom Act, S. 993

On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your senators and ask them to cosponsor the Restoring Internet Freedom Act, S. 993, introduced by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah). The bill would repeal the Federal Communications Commission’s 2015 Open Internet Order, through which the agency claimed regulatory power over the Internet, designating Internet service providers (ISPs) as “common carriers” under Title II of the Communications Act of 1934.

The Hazard of Over Licensing

Usually, the average person wants to feel safe in our day to day lives. When they conduct business or make purchases, they want to believe that where they are making are purchases are legitimate and not trying to take advantage of us. For that reason, they usually ask the government to make various businesses, organizations, and individuals license their practices to make sure they have some credibility in their respective fields.

On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your senators and representative and ask them to co-sponsor the Davis-Bacon Repeal Act, S. 244 and H.R. 743, introduced by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa). The bill would repeal Davis-Bacon Act of 1931, which requires all construction projects funded by the federal government to pay workers the local prevailing wage.

On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your senators and strongly encourage them to cosponsor the Global Trade Accountability Act of 2017, S. 177, introduced by Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah). FreedomWorks’ Bill of the Month for October 2016: Welfare Reform and Upward Mobility Act

FreedomWorks has selected H.R. 5360, the Welfare Reform and Upward Mobility Act, as our bill of the month for October 2016. Introduced by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), this legislation will bring much-needed reform to federal entitlements, which account for nearly 50% of federal spending. This rate of federal spending and the welfare state designed by leftists are both unsustainable and impractical. Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) has introduced the Senate companion bill, S. 3047.

FreedomWorks’ Bill of the Month for September 2016: Transportation Empowerment Act

FreedomWorks is proud to announce that our Bill of the Month for September 2016 is S.1541, the Transportation Empowerment Act introduced by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), and its House counterpart, H.R. 2716 introduced by Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla). These bills respect the principles of federalism, would cut the federal gas tax, and reduce bureaucracy. Talk about making freedom work.

Weldon Angelos Released, Mandatory Minimums Continue to Put Nonviolent Criminals Away

Weldon Angelos’s story has become known around the country as a horrifying example of how harsh mandatory minimums can ruin the lives of non-violent criminals and their families. Angelos was sentenced in 2004 to 55 years for drug-related crimes. Judge Paul G. Cassell, who handed down the sentence, was vocal about his frustration with a system that would have Angelos spend the rest of his life incarcerated while child rapists and airplane hijackers received significantly shorter sentences.

Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden's Memory Problems

Perhaps the cocktails preceding yesterday's welcome dinner at the American Constitution Society's annual convention are to blame, but when Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Elizabeth Warren addressed the dinner, they appeared to be suffering from memory problems. As they spoke about the Senate's handling of President Obama's judicial nominees and Donald Trump's remarks concerning a Mexican-American judge, their memory lapses were too numerous to discuss in a single post. But here are several examples:
