Mark Udall wants feds to get YOU in shape!

A lot of important things were happening in 2008. Banks were failing, jobs were being lost, and our economy was about to be pushed off a cliff. The problems our country faced in 2008 were grave, and have had lasting consequences even to this day. Luckily, while voters, politicians, and pundits wasted their time trying to select new leaders of government to tackle these problems, then-Congressman Mark Udall saw something different. In the midst of economy downturn, Congressman Udall and his taxpayer-funded congressional staff felt the best use of their time and resources was to write a bill to get Americans to stand up and actually do something! Literally, something—anything actually that made a person sweat. And they wanted the government to design a program and devote resources promoting it.

Happy New Year! Five Ways the Government Is Already On Your Case in 2014

There are but hours left in 2013, which a full two thirds of Americans described as the "worst year ever." Actually, I'm not sure of that exact number, but I was among the ones that did. Thanks, Obamacare! Anyway, lest you think you're leaving all of the bad stuff behind while you're celebrating the end of the year with stuffed lobster, champagne and terrible decisions, the government has already started in on making your life miserable in 2014. And ready or not, as of midnight, here it comes. 1. The Obamacare Insurance Tax

You Can Lead a Citizen to Water...

I remember the Old Age — the time Before Obama. We had cruel rulers who were so focused on wars and greed that they never shared a vital secret with their subjects. These latter-day Neros and Caligulae never once told the dessicated masses about a simple, life-giving treasure. The treasure of Water. It was a dark time. A thirsty time.

From Food Trucks to Freedom Activist

My sister and I were hanging out one weekend watching the Food Network, eating cookie dough and trying to stay cool; Texas summers are brutal. We ended up watching a food truck special that highlighted some of the best food trucks from cities all over the country. Oh My!

First They Came for the Raccoons and I Said Nothing

A few weeks ago, I saw an adorable video of what appeared to be Duck Dynasty's long lost cast member, dancing with a raccoon.  The bearded old man, Mark "Coonrippy" Brown, and his pet raccoon, Gunshow, were bustin' a move to Aretha Franklin's, "Chain of Fools." As you might imagine, the video went viral (that's how I came to see it, after all).

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Big Gulps

Earlier today, the First Department of New York State's Appellate Division upheld a ruling that struck down Mayor Bloomberg's controversial portion cap rule or "soda ban." The ban would've prohibited movie theatres and other restaurants and eating establishments from serving specific sugary beverages in quantities larger than 16 ounces.

23 State Attorneys General vs. a Coffee Mug

Being a semi-old coot, I don’t have much experience with hipster retailer Urban Outfitters. I visited one of their stores a few years ago to grab a gift card for my niece. My young daughter liked the set-up and excitedly told a pierced and tatted counter girl, “this place is almost as cool as WalMart!”Miss Counterculture didn’t find this as amusing as I did.

State Cigarette Tax Hikes Totally Earning Cash; For Other States.

Years ago, Illinois decided that smoking was bad for its citizens and put a cigarette tax into place thinking they'd do two things: one, break the people who live there of a nasty filthy habit that was shortening their lives and keeping the Democratic politicians who cared about their fragile health up at night, and two, raise a little cash for a state that is so far in debt California won't be seen in public with it anymore.
