Obama’s New Climate Goals Could Have Significant Economic Cost

Later this month, a number of nations, including the U.S., will descend upon Paris, France for a week and a half to discuss global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference will take place from November 30th to December 11th, and while most of the event will be used to discuss new ways to mitigate the effects of global climate change, President Obama will be gearing up to discuss the new additions to his climate plan. However, while the commander-in-chief is hoping that a bold climate agenda will spur other nations to take on or continue their own ambitious climate initiatives, the potential economic repercussions may create more of a dissuasive tone; especially for developing industrial nations such as China.

The United States desperately needs justice reform, but it must be accomplished through Congress

The Obama administration will, today, unveil its plan to restore federal funding for inmates to take college courses. The tool to be used is Pell grants, the main form of federal aid for low-income college students. The grants cover up to $5,775 a year in tuition, fees, books and other education related expenses.

Obama's $181 billion in executive actions are being passed on to consumers through higher prices

Americans already face a $1.8 trillion regulatory burden. These heavy costs are passed on by businesses to consumers, who spend almost a quarter of their annual income complying with regulations often approved executive-level agencies, which have effectively become the fourth branch of the federal government.

Jonathan Gruber's arrogance and hostility completely undermines his already insincere apology

Jonathan Gruber apologized for his "insulting and mean comments" about the intelligence of voters during his opening statement before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. The manner in which he conducted himself throughout the hearing, however, brings into question his sincerity. Even his apology came across with a strong degree of arrogance and contempt for the general public.

The Obama administration is already downplaying expectations for ObamaCare's second open enrollment period

Though Healthcare.gov doesn't open for business until November 15, the spin for the second open enrollment period for ObamaCare has already begun. More than a year after the disastrous rollout of the federal Exchange, which our insurance-salesman-in-chief, President Obama, said users would have a shopping experience similar to Kayak, Orbitz, or Amazon, the administration agencies overseeing the website are already downplaying expectations:

Obamacare Website is a Disaster, Hides True Costs

If you want to know how successful a government program is, there are three things you could consider: the theory behind the program, how the administration implements it, and what the program actually accomplishes in the real world.Much has been written about the problems with the rationale behind Obamacare and it is impossible to know, right now, what the full effects of the law are going to be.  Instead, I’m going to focus on how the Obama administration has rolled out their signature accomplishment.  Spoiler alert, they’ve done a terrible job.

Detroit Needs Responsible Government, Not a Bailout

I attend Hillsdale College in southern Michigan. It’s a pleasant place, the people are friendly, the landscape of the college is beautiful, and the academic rigor is intellectually stimulating. Some of the things that I’ve learned since becoming a temporary Michigander are that  the weather is utterly and truly unpredictable, that Ohio State fans are worst people on earth (their words, not mine), and that native Michiganders insist that “soda” is something you bake with and “pop” is the thing you drink. (They’re wrong.)
