FreedomWorks Prepares to Launch New Ad Campaign Against Net Neutrality

FreedomWorks is leading the fight to stop government regulation of the Internet. This week FreedomWorks is rolling out a new ad campaign [view the ad .pdf] and the website www.neuters.net targeting conservative Representatives. The purpose is to draw attention to the liberal, big government coalition of supporters of “Net Neutrality” regulations, and ask why good conservatives would consider joining them.

“Net Neutrality” regulations would give the federal bureaucracy unprecedented new power over the Internet and Internet content. Not surprisingly, the call for federal Internet control is being led by large government supporters like Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, and MoveOn.org. If “Net Neutrality” mandates were to pass, the current pace of Internet growth would slow, and regulators at the FCC, not innovation and consumer demand, would become the Internet’s driving force.

FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe commented, “The debate over net neutrality is a fundamental choice between free market innovation and top-down government regulation. The conservative position should be to promote the development of new technologies that will provide consumers better service and more choice, not regulate the Internet in a snap-shot of time. The Internet is still evolving and government regulation will interfere with innovation by penalizing investment in the Internet backbone. The Internet has developed free of government interference, and this is a classic example of government not being able to resist the temptation to create new regulations.”

The FreedomWorks ad states: “It’s clear that this is part of the Left’s big government agenda. But why aren’t conservatives in Congress, particularly those in the Leadership, taking a firm stand on behalf of free market principle? True believers in lower taxes, less government, and more freedom should be outraged.”

FreedomWorks will continue to lead the effort to stop “net neutrality” regulations by expanding its “call to action” to its nationwide army of grassroots activists. Over the
Memorial Day Recess, FreedomWorks activists placed thousands of calls to legislators and made dozens of visits to district offices.

The new website www.neuters.net will use humor to illustrate a serious point, that the Internet is threatened by big government regulation. The site asks if we want a dynamic internet, or a version that is ‘neutered’ by regulations.

FreedomWorks is a grassroots organization with over 800,000 members nationwide dedicated to lower taxes, less government, and more freedom.
