Obama Quickly Crushing the Hopes of Small Business

The man who would usher in an era of 'hope and change' with his election in 2008, begins 2012 having practically eliminated any hope for small business owners.  The recent release of the Small Business Optimism Index bears this out, with uncertainty reaching new record highs, even following a first term already marked predominantly by economic and regulatory uncertainties.

Refuting J.D. Kleinke’s “Conservative Case for ObamaCare”

Little lasts for long in the world of politics. Popular politicians grow obscure, national movements wither (Occupy, anyone?), and broad coalitions splinter. One remarkable exception to that general rule, however, is the coalition to repeal and replace ObamaCare. Despite multiple years passing since President Barack Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law, the “full repeal” coalition has actually gathered steam.

Replacing ObamaCare: Insurance Across State Lines (Part 2)

Let’s take a closer look at how interstate insurance sales would impact another important element of consumer-driven health care reform: true insurance. If you’ve forgotten, true insurance is individual insurance. Most people receive their health insurance as the result of a group insurance plan provided by their employer.

Replacing ObamaCare: Health Savings Accounts

On June 28th, the Supreme Court released its ruling on the constitutionality of ObamaCare. The 5-4 majority, led by Chief Justice John Roberts, ruled that the individual mandate was unconstitutional according to the Obama administration’s justification of its constitutionality under the commerce clause, but decided to uphold the mandate as an exercise of Congress’s taxing power regardless.

ObamaCare Upheld as a Tax, But It’s Not the End of the World

“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are… But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!” – Rocky, from Rocky Balboa (2006)This morning, the United States Supreme Court released its ruling on the constitutionality of ObamaCare. In a 5-4 decision, the Court found that the individual mandate is constitutional, but only as a tax. Chief Justice John Roberts joined Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Elena Kagan, and Sonia Sotomayor in this majority opinion. Justices Antonin Scalia, Anthony Kennedy, Samuel Alito, and Clarence Thomas dissented, arguing that the entirety of the law was unconstitutional. To put it bluntly, this is a very complicated ruling that few expected in its given form.
