Another Reason to Love Texas- Education Reform

Just in case you needed another reason to love Texas, Governor Rick Perry has given us one. Yesterday, Perry signed education reforms into law which will shake up graduation requirements and put less emphasis on testing. By signing House Bills 5, 809, 842, and 3662, as well as Senate Bill 441, Perry achieved a significant overhaul of public education.

On Tuesday, Governor Rick Perry issued his first veto of the year, vetoing HB 2403, an Internet sales tax bill which FreedomWorks opposed. By vetoing HB 2403 Governor Perry has saved taxpayers and business alike from burdensome regulations and new taxes. In vetoing the legislation Perry cited that a key reason for his veto was that there was no consensus between lawmakers, tech experts, consumers and retailers.

One Step Closer to an Internet Sales Tax in Texas

Last week, the Texas Legislature passed HB 2403, a bill aimed at taxing your internet purchases.  Currently, purchases made over the Internet are tax-free if the company does not have a physical presence within the state.  The bill expands the definition of a “nexus” or physical presence to include warehouses and distribution centers where online retailers distribute goods.
