Progress for Educational Reform in Maine

In the last legislative session, Maine Governor Paul LePage pushed education reform changes to help kids in his state. His agenda included tougher teacher and principal evaluations, and the switch to a proficiency-based high school diploma. The legislature did not, however, pass school choice legislation. Yesterday, a school choice work group in Maine met for the first time to determine if and how school choice will be implemented in Maine.

2012 GOP Platform Incorporates 2012 “Freedom Platform”

FreedomWorks is proud to report that the 2012 GOP Platform, as approved at the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, incorporates almost all key elements of the FreedomWorks “Freedom Platform”. Most notably, the 2012 GOP Platform calls for both an Audit of the Federal Reserve and the full repeal of Obamacare, two of the cornerstones of the Freedom Platform.  Striking similarities between the two platforms are an encouraging reminder of the ground that the freedom movement is gaining within the establishment Republican Party.

Parent trigger laws are under attack in California. High Desert Elementary School, a member of Adelanto Elementary School District, is the first school in which parents have successfully executed the Parent Trigger Law. State testing scores show that 75% of students cannot read or write, causing The Desert Trails Parent Union to look for major changes for the better education of their children.

Chicago Organizers and the Reelection Machine

Chicago Teachers Union got the strike desired by a core group of activists, but the strike is not about the issues on the table. The strike is about who is in charge: union bosses, or the taxpayers.

Bush and Rhee Show Bipartisan Support for Parent Trigger Laws

Next month, the film Won’t Back Down will hit theaters around America. It is the story of a mother who will not accept that her child will be subjected to an unsatisfactory education simply because she comes from a financially disadvantaged background. It is a look at school reform in America, and will put Parent Trigger Laws front and center ahead of the upcoming election season.

Education Reform Takes Hollywood by Storm

Education reform has often been ignored by the political establishment and the media elite, with little focus being placed on the failures of the American education system.   Despite the neglect, an underground school choice movement that unites both Right and Left has been gaining ground over the past 20 years, scoring an increasing number of victories for education reform in many states over the past two years.  As the movement continues to gain valuable momentum, school choice advocates are beginning to gain attention from Hollywood of all places.

One Myth at a Time..."Those Kids Can't Learn."

On Wednesday, I was a guest on a local radio show broadcasting out of Harrisburg.  During the 45 minute interview, I was to discuss school choice and why FreedomWorks is supporting vouchers.  Unlike many of the interviews I have done in the past, this one was downright hostile.  Not suspecting the amount of misinformation being spread about vouchers, I was caught off guard by a caller who took time to lash out about FreedomWorks stance on the issue.
