FreedomWorks Announces Opposition to Jack Lew’s Treasury Secretary Appointment

Activists are urged to contact their Senators on NotJackLew.com to say “NO” to Jack Lew

WASHINGTON, DC-   Following news that President Barack Obama will appoint former White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew as the next Treasury Secretary to replace Tim Geithner, FreedomWorks president Matt Kibbe issued the following response:

“The national debt stands at over $16 trillion. Congress hasn’t passed a budget in over three years. And President Obama picks Jack Lew, a former budget director whose budgets were so bad, they were unanimously rejected by the Senate. And he had the audacity to falsely blame Republicans for ‘filibustering’ those ludicrously bloated budgets. Lew’s credentials are laughable.”

“Jack Lew played a critical role in the 2011 debt ceiling negotiations that stuck taxpayers with a $2 trillion debt hike and resulted in a credit downgrade for the United States. He was responsible for the drafting of multiple big government programs, including health care reform under the Clinton administration and the formation of AmeriCorp. As a managing director at Citigroup, Jack Lew oversaw a unit that profited off the housing collapse and financial crisis by investing in a hedge fund king who correctly predicted the eventual subprime meltdown. This is not the resume of someone with a sincere commitment to securing America’s financial future.”

FreedomWorks is directing activists to www.NotJackLew.com to learn why Lew lacks the competency and the integrity to be Treasury Secretary. The site also features a call to action for citizens to contact their Senators and tell them to say “NO” to Jack Lew.
