Republicans Need To 'Throw an Elbow' and End the Politics of Envy

A flat tax rate on all income regardless of source will shift the discussion to spending and end the politics of envyThere is a legend that after being knocked around early in his career, Hall of Famer Bill Russell was advised by storied basketball coach Red Auerbach to throw an elbow in a nationally televised game to send a message to his adversaries.

The Cavalry Isn’t Coming — States Must Create Their Own Success

I miss the heady days of January 2012, just 12 months ago. Sure, the economy was lousy, GOP primary debates were tedious, and “We Bought a Zoo” was still in theatres. But there was a faint glimmer of hope on the horizon.Conservatives had made huge gains in 2010, the Supreme Court had a decent chance of tossing out Obamacare, and the presidential approval rating was well under 50 percent. If everything broke just right, the GOP could recapture the White House and start to fix the economic damage.

Key Vote NO on Speaker Boehner's "Plan B" Tax Plan

Dear FreedomWorks member,As one of our millions of FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your Representative and urge him or her to vote against Speaker Boehner’s “Plan B” tax plan.  This bill, being offered as replacement language for H.J.Res. 66, would prevent automatic tax rate increases for most individuals, but would allow taxes to automatically increase for some higher-income Americans.

Fair Share - The Truth About Taxes

Last week Senior Economics Writer for the Wall Street Journal, Stephen Moore published an in depth look at our tax structure, who really pays and how it compares to what the wealthy pay in other countries. There's many conclusions one could come to from that report, but bottom line; something has to change with our tax code.  It's clear that the current system of gimmees, kickbacks, exemptions and tax breaks is anything but simple, flat or fair.  Just look at who really pays.....

The Ryan (and Romney?) Budget

The House GOP budget proposal for the coming decade (2013-2022), released yesterday, is a mixture of boldness and caution, principle and compromise. Resembling and building on last year's House-passed "Ryan budget," the Path to Prosperity version 2.0 reads very much like a preview of a Romney Administration budget version 1.0. While not nearly as bold and principled as these debt-drenched times require, it would still be a major improvement over the status quo, and much better than what President Obama and congressional Democrats envision, namely, ever-bigger government.

State of the Union: President Obama’s Chance to Explain

President Barack Obama will deliver his State of the Union Address tonight at 9 o’clock. Given the state of the economy, it will be interesting to hear how much of his speech includes proposals that could actually stimulate job growth, shrink the fiscal deficit, and encourage private investment.
