Freedom of (some) Information (for those who can afford it)

On June 2nd, the House of Representatives Committee on oversight and Government Reform began a hearing on the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The hearing spanned two days and was aided by three panels of witnesses. In effort to ensure transparency, the congressmen assessed how government agencies currently view FOIA and deal with requests for information. My takeaway? FOIA is a joke and government agencies are the worst.

Elizabeth Warren is totally fine with being kept in the dark by the Federal Reserve

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has become the populist darling of the far-left by successfully portraying herself to be a vocal opponent of Wall Street and big financial institutions, as well as a hardcore supporter of onerous financial regulations, the costs of which are passed on to American consumers. Her anti-cronyism image, though, isn't all it's cracked up to be.

The (CR)Omnibus Process Has Been Another Congressional Disgrace

Congress, apparently in a race to more thoroughly deserve its abysmal approval ratings, has conducted a tremendous exercise in bad government this past week. The omnibus funding bill that is set to keep the government paid for through September 2015 has been crafted largely in secret, and once again left lawmakers with only a couple of days to sort through what had been changed in over a thousand pages of text. This is not a rational way to run a government.

Obama administration cooked ObamaCare enrollment numbers by including 400,000 standalone dental plans

In September, the Obama administration boasted that some 7.3 million Americans had enrolled in ObamaCare health plans. Though down from the initial 8.1 million reported in May, due to attrition by consumers not making premium pay or data inconsistencies, the number still exceeded the Congressional Budget Office's 7 million estimate for the first open enrollment period for plans taking effect in 2014.

The White House really doesn't want you to listen to the guy paid $400,000 to craft ObamaCare

The White House is trying to downplay yet another ObamaCare scandal by calling Jonathan Gruber, the architect of the law, a liar. In a statement provided to a leftist blog, a White House spokesperson disputed the MIT economist's October 2013 comment that the designed lack of transparency in ObamaCare was "a huge political advantage" to ram it through Congress.

Transparency fail: U.S. Department of Agriculture is running interference for Kay Hagan

The Obama administration is the most open and transparent administration in history.....said no serious person, EVER. Though the line is still repeated ad nauseam by White House and administration officials, it has been thoroughly debunked time and time again. But it seems that the administration isn't just trying to provide cover for itself anymore. They're also now trying to run interference for North Carolina Democrat Kay Hagan.

Support Grows for Sen. Paul's Audit the Fed bill

Sen. Rand Paul’s campaign to get a vote to audit the Federal Reserve as a condition for considering the nomination of Janet Yellen for Federal Reserve chair is gaining support from one Congressman. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio (R-MI) has written a letter in support of Paul’s Federal Reserve Transparency Act, S. 209.

Demand Transparency in Education Spending

In most states, education is the most expensive item in the budget. However, there is frequently some question on exactly how much is being spent and on what. The Cato Institute dug in to see what they could find out about transparency in educational spending around America.

Federal Government's Latest First Amendment Assault Targets College Campuses

Adding to this week's Scandalpalooza is a lesser known, but incredibly disturbing tidbit. According to Legal Insurrection, the federal government mandated speech codes on all college campuses.  Free speech issues on college campuses usually center around student groups' rights to protest, but this latest first amendment assault creates such a subjective vacuum, it renders every college student a potential criminal:

Today on The FreedomCast, CJ Ciaramella of the Washington Free Beacon joins me to discuss the SCOTUS’ decision on the Virginia law regarding public records requests and the insanity of needing a drivers license to get information from your government but not necessarily needing one to vote.
