Pruitt's Confirmation as EPA Chief Essential to Restoring Balance of Power

The early days of the 115th Congress will see a focus on a regulatory reform, as the House of Representatives seeks to reestablish Article I of the Constitution, which delegates lawmaking authority solely to the legislative branch. Passage of legislation to rein in the regulatory state, however, is only one part of this important effort.

Obama Takes One More Shot in His War on Coal on His Way Out the Door

Last Monday, the Obama administration’s Office of Surface Mining (OSMRE) issued its so-called Stream Protection Rule. This regulation, which the administration has been working on behind closed doors for six years, represents the logical culmination of this administration’s war on coal. This rule, if not overturned, would increase regulatory costs for coal mines to such an extent that candidate Obama’s promise to “bankrupt” coal companies will be largely achieved.

Obama Tries to Sneak a Last-Minute Ban on Offshore Drilling

Last Tuesday, President Obama announced a sweeping, completely unprecedented power grab. He claims that he has unilaterally withdrawn from future mineral leasing most of the Arctic seabed and large portions of the Atlantic seabed. The president and his radical environmentalist allies assert, without any evidence, that this withdrawal is permanent and cannot be overturned by a future president. This arrogance and disregard for our constitutional system is a yet another example of why the president’s legacy was rejected by voters in the general election last month.

Legislation to Combat Costly Federal Regulations Will Be Reintroduced in the 115th Congress

Legislation that would go a long way toward restoring Article I of the Constitution and serve as a check on the regulatory state will be reintroduced when the 115th Congress begins on January 3. In a press release Wednesday, Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) announced that he will sponsor the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act in the next Congress.

Congress Should Pass Balanced Budget with ObamaCare Repeal

Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul recently raised eyebrows when, in a op-ed for Time, he wrote that he would vote against a budget resolution that includes instructions to repeal ObamaCare through reconciliation if it does not balance.

Restoring the Separation of Powers Through Congressional Action, Reversing Executive Orders and Regulations

While the 115th Congress begins on January 3 at noon, President Barack Obama will continue to serve in the White House until January 20, when President-elect Donald Trump takes office. The first 100 days of the incoming administration are expected to be incredibly busy. Obviously, the repeal of ObamaCare is at the top of the congressional to-do list, and action to begin this effort is expected to be immediate. Reining in the regulatory state is another item on which action is projected to be swift.

How the Clean Power Plan Hurts States Represented by Democratic Senators

One of President Barack Obama's most controversial regulations is getting a lot of attention after President-elect Donald Trump nominated Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to serve as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The Clean Power Plan (CPP), under the purported authority of the Clean Air Act, requires states to develop plans to reduce emissions by 32 percent below 2005 levels. If a state fails to adopt a plan, the EPA creates one for it. The rule will supposedly avert 0.015°F by 2100 of future temperature increases.
