Claire McCaskill: Strong Politician or Just Following Suit?

Raising the Debt Ceiling is only OK when a Democrat Does It With a Democratic president in office, Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) had no problem voting for an increase in the debt ceiling this summer. But in 2007 it seemed that under a Republican president, Senator McCaskill would never be caught voting for a raise in the debt limit.

Obama’s American Jobs Act will Crush Jobs

President Obama’s big job speech last week sounded more like yet another campaign speech. In typical Obama fashion, it was full of grand promises without much substance. He introduced his American Jobs Act with lots of feel good rhetoric minus the useful details of the costly plan.

Huntsman on Cap-And-Trade

Is he just pining for votes? Former Utah governor Jon Huntsman takes back his support for cap-and-trade as the race for the GOP presidential nominee presses on. Cap-and-trade ultimately places significant limits on the amount of greenhouse gases companies can emit. Companies are issued permits for every ton of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere and are allowed to sell their permits to other companies if not used.

CNN Rates Perry’s “Ponzi Scheme” Remark False Because Social Security Isn’t Illegal

CNN’s best attempt to discredit Presidential candidate Rick Perry’s statement that Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme relies on a legal definition by the Securities and Exchange Commission. Seriously:

Washington Weight Loss Program: Is Trimming Payroll Enough?

Tax Cuts May Not be Enough to get the Private Sector Moving. Obama’s jobs speech on September 8, 2011 sparked interest in the ears of both Republicans and Democrats. One of the highlights included yet another reduction in the payroll tax. Obama claims that this will put more money into the pockets of the American people, stimulate the economy, and decrease uncertainty. “It will provide a tax break for companies who hire new workers, and it will cut payroll taxes in half for every working American and every small business.

Wind Energy: A Darker Shade of Green

A Darker Shade of Green Wind energy has become an environmentalist’s catchall. Americans have been led to believe that the big white wind turbines springing up all across the country are a sort of great white hope for the environment and energy security.

Obama: Cut the Social Security Tax in Half

Democracy and Power 103:  Government moneyIn general, the art of government consists in taking as much money as possible from one party of the citizens to give to the other. – Voltaire (1764) The money taxed and spent by the politicians comes from the labor and ingenuity of millions of working persons.  Politicians spend other peoples’ money.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?: Cronyism and Collusion in the Obama Administration

As commentators grapple with the rhetoric and content of the president’s big jobs speech, few will take notice of his invited guests. Chief among these attendees are GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt, and AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. At first glance, Obama’s guest list seems conciliatory and inclusive; after all, both big business and big labor will be defining factors in a lasting economic recovery. Unfortunately, though, there is more than meets the eye. There is a history of ties, too close for comfort, between the leader of the free world and General Electric’s head.

Social Security is a Mandatory Ponzi Scheme

Rick Perry made headlines for calling Social Security a “Ponzi scheme” in last night’s presidential debate. Mitt Romney and statist media sources predictably attacked this position claiming that the insolvent program is A-Okay. To be fair, Rick Perry isn’t the only Republican candidate with the courage to speak truth to fiction about Social Security. Ron Paul has likely been calling the entitlement program a Ponzi scheme long before I was even born.
