Senator Rand Paul’s Budget Plan is Still the Best

Rep. Paul Ryan, the Republican Chairman of the House Budget Committee, has released his new budget plan called The Path to Prosperity: A Blueprint for American Renewal. His plan does contain some praiseworthy proposals such as cutting the corporate tax rate, repealing ObamaCare and ending forms of corporate welfare. However, it does not cut a single federal department and doesn’t balance the budget until 2040.

FreedomWorks Releases Names of Six Mississippi House Legislators Blocking Education Reform

Washington, DC- As part of an ongoing education reform campaign in Mississippi, FreedomWorks released the names of six House members anticipated to vote against the recently Senate-passed Charter School Bill, SB 2401.  The legislation would allow for charter schools across the state, bringing much needed reform to the failing Mississippi school system. According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress, only 22 percent of Mississippi 4th graders and 19 percent of 8th graders are proficient in math and reading.

The Ryan (and Romney?) Budget

The House GOP budget proposal for the coming decade (2013-2022), released yesterday, is a mixture of boldness and caution, principle and compromise. Resembling and building on last year's House-passed "Ryan budget," the Path to Prosperity version 2.0 reads very much like a preview of a Romney Administration budget version 1.0. While not nearly as bold and principled as these debt-drenched times require, it would still be a major improvement over the status quo, and much better than what President Obama and congressional Democrats envision, namely, ever-bigger government.

Read Our Lips, House Republicans: Balance the Budget and Don't Raise Taxes

Today, FreedomWorks joins with other fiscally conservative groups in urging House Republicans to pass a budget that balances in ten years or less and which does not raise taxes.  [Note: The only budget plan FreedomWorks has seen to date that actually reflects these principles is the "Platform to Revitalize America" offered by tea-party-aligned Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky. This bold, principled plan would balance the budget in 5 years, eliminate 4 cabinet departments, shrink the government, and "stop the debt."] The following letter, signed by FreedomWorks, presents our case to House Republicans and affirms our committment to fiscal responsibility in government.

Help Bring Charter Schools to Mississippi

According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress, only 22% of Mississippi 4th graders are proficient in math and reading, and only 19% of 8th graders are proficient in those same subjects. These numbers demonstrate the abject failure of an entrenched education establishment, and that’s why FreedomWorks is helping Governor Bryant bring free-market solutions to the education system. The governor is committed to reform, but he needs our help to get it done.

Help Pass School Choice in South Carolina

Thanks to the support of you and thousands of other grassroots activists, H. 4894 passed out of the House Education Committee last week, and is expected to be voted on by the full House in the next few days. That’s why it’s more important than ever that we continue to make our voices heard in support of H. 4894. The education establishment is pulling out all the stops to prevent this much-needed reform from being passed, but we must demand that legislators vote YES on H. 4894 and bring school choice to South Carolina.

Where Art Thou, Governor Corbett

What do Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, South Carolina Governor Nicki Haley, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, and Mississippi Governor Bryant all have in common?  The answer:  They are all in full support of statewide education reform. In fact, Governor Daniels has successfully passed reform legislation in Indiana.  Which brings me to wonder, where is Governor Tom Corbett of Pennsylvania?

Keystone: Loyal Democrats Protect Obama and Vulnerable Senators

Democracy and Power 107:  Counting votes Successful … politicians are insecure and intimidated men. They advance politically only as they placate, appease, bribe, seduce, bamboozle or otherwise manage to manipulate the demanding and threatening elements in their constituencies. – Walter Lippmann (1889-1974), American Journalist and Author
