FreedomWorks Statement on Weakened USA Freedom Act

Along with many other pro-civil liberties groups, FreedomWorks endorsed the USA Freedom Act introduced by Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner. The original bill contained language that would end the NSA’s bulk collection of data and increase transparency in government. We acknowledged that it wasn’t the perfect bill but it was a step in the right direction to reform the NSA. We had hoped that it would be voted on without significant changes that undermine the intent of the USA Freedom Act.

Student Loans Are Another Bubble Ready to Burst

If there’s one group of people who are getting a raw deal these days, it’s the young. The unemployment rate among 16- to 19-year-olds is a whopping 19.1 percent, ObamaCare is raising the costs of health insurance for young people by compelling them to subsidize their parents and grandparents, and the current generation of politicians continues to rack up debt that will one day have to be paid for at future generations’ expense.

Rock Star, Ninja, or Guru: Which One Are You?

Remember back in the halcyon days of new media when just about everyone wanted to be a "rock star", "ninja", or "guru"? Back then (and, really, we're talking about a couple of years ago at most), folks would shank each other with a sharpened Pinterest post to be known as the Rock Star of their niche, the New Media Ninja, or the wise and sought-out Guru. I know this because I was right there with them. The titles were cool!

Desperate To Be Relevant, the FCC Pounces On the Internet

Spurred on by advocates of net neutrality, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler has released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that has the potential to drastically reshape the Internet. While the possibility of a "fast lane" on the Internet has the proponents of net neutrality up in arms, the looming threat of regulation is far more troubling. The proposed rulemaking is exploring a number of options, including the possibility of reclassifying Internet Service Providers (ISPs) as a telecommunication service, which can then be regulated like the telephone system. Despite the lack of any evidence of market failure, Chairman Wheeler appears bent on expanding the FCC's regulatory reach on the Internet.
