"Residents urge state to drop Common Core school standards"

Good article regarding residents in Pennsylvania who are opposing Common Core. Hopefully the new bills that are being introduced in the PA Legislature will pass. http://articles.mcall.com/2013-07-10/news/mc-pa-common-core-0710-20130710_1_common-core-student-records-standards

23 State Attorneys General vs. a Coffee Mug

Being a semi-old coot, I don’t have much experience with hipster retailer Urban Outfitters. I visited one of their stores a few years ago to grab a gift card for my niece. My young daughter liked the set-up and excitedly told a pierced and tatted counter girl, “this place is almost as cool as WalMart!”Miss Counterculture didn’t find this as amusing as I did.

Key Vote NO on the New House Farm Bill

As one of our millions of FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your representative and urge him or her to vote NO on new House Farm Bill, H.R. 2642.House Leadership does deserve some slight praise for bringing forth a Farm Bill that is separate from the food stamp provisions that have served for decades as a mammoth earmark to attract Democratic support for the bill. However, splitting the food stamps and farm bill is a means to reform, not an end in itself.

Splitting the Farm Bill is Only the First Step Towards Reforms

Leading up to the fortunate failure of the Farm Bill on the floor of the House in June, conservatives have been urging Congress to separate the agricultural parts of the bill from the food stamp programs so that each major program could be debated and reformed on its own merits. The House leadership has responded by actually splitting the bill and offering an agriculture-only bill, which is an excellent move on their part.

NSA Domestic Spying: A History of Abuse

Whistleblower Edward Snowden brought warrantless wiretapping to the forefront of national conversation by exposing the National Security Agency surveillance of the American people. While  many  Americans  are outraged at the NSA’s unconstitutional actions, few realize the extensive history of NSA’s spying policies. Since President Truman established the NSA in 1952, the agency has grown in both power and technological capabilities, enabling them to spy upon Americans without consent or probable cause.

On today’s edition of the FreedomCast, John Berlau joins me to discuss data collection at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, why this unelected bureaucracy is a stealth intrusion into your private financial dealings and how its leader, Richard Cordray was appointed unconstitutionally.  Related links:

Gov. Kasich Tugs Heartstrings, Spins Falsehoods at Medicaid Expansion Rally

Governor John Kasich stuck to his practiced Medicaid expansion pitch - a mix of progressive pseudo-Christianity and outright falsehoods about the program's funding - during a speech at a July 9 Statehouse rally for socialized medicine.

Raisin Hell

This week, the White House launched a new initiative for a “better, smarter, faster government.” At a showy Monday press event, President Obama declared, “we need the brightest minds to help solve our biggest challenges… It’s up to each and every one of us to make it work better.”Where exactly has The Smartest President Ever decided to focus several of his brightest minds? On punishing “Raisin Dissidents.”
